Columbus screen protector

Featured Replies

Hello folks after receiving my superb the other day I would like to get a decent screen protector for the head unit, has any one got one yet, if so what do you think of the glass versions I say your fingers will glide easier over it. So the question really is has anyone got one if so where and where they happy with it.

I wouldn't bother - and I haven't.

It's not going to run any risk of getting scratched like a phone or tablet might. as it's not something you're going to be carrying around with you.

As the screen is capacitive and not resistive you also risk reducing the touch sensitivity/response.

Invest in a good clean microfibre cloth instead and always use it dry - no cleaning fluids.

What BillyJim has said and also try using the right hand selector wheel as much as possible - it reduces the amount of screen touching and build up of fingerprint / greasy marks. With some control aspects you have to touch the screen (e.g. return button) but the selector wheel will do most scroll / select type operations. It's also good for zooming in and out on the nav system. As an aside - you can zoom so far out you get to see the whole earth!

I also find as a passenger if want to select something when the car is moving, accurately touching the screen can be difficult with car movement. The right hand wheel is good here too.

Ive had one on since day one. Decent quality one from Amazon. No reduction in screen sensitivity. Also had one on the Bolero in my Scout.

I was interested to read Surperbian's comment re using the right hand scroll wheel to zoom the map. I use mine for scrolling and selecting but have not been able to zoom the map. What am I doing wrongly?

Hello Nick do you have a link to the one you bought was yours the Columbus version?

I've had mine for several years and no scratches on it at all. I've got kids as well and they poke at it quite a bit.

No idea how much the screen protectors are, but I'd save your money as I don't think they are needed.

Here you go mate. Well worth £3.25. Mate of mine had his little lad throw a pen across the car which left a nasty scratch on his BMW screen. No brainer really.... Screen protector £3.25 ? Columbus £2k ?

I think manual map scaling must be enabled. Refer to the following section in the manual here:

Did you go for the normal or anti-glare version?

I grabbed the anti glare version after seeing this thread, thanks for the heads up! I'll get around to fitting it this week sometime.

Had a couple of very small spots under mine.... Micro dust particles. Hardly noticeable really.... Feel happier with it on though ...

This one was £1.25 cheaper. Once a Yorkie always a Yorkie!!!

Ordered one of these a while ago. Finally got around fitting it today and it went on perfectly, not a single air bubble or dust particle! Took no more than 30sec from start to finish. You just can't tell it's there, matt finish with no reflections and the Columbus works just fine. £3.95 worth of peace of mind...

TVM to original poster.

I ordered a semi-matt protector from this site....
