Hello from DK

Hi there.

Im looking for a Skoda Octavia mk3 new or used. Preferably a 1.8tsi manuel, or a vrs manuel. Not decided on estate or hatchback either.

I've driven the 1.4 150hp estate and the 1.8 180hp hatch.

I fell in love with the 1.8 as it has the extra power i felt the 1.4 needed. Now i just need to find out how the vrs drives and if i should buy that instead.

As it is now I will most likely likely order a new 1.8 estate in black with tinted windows in the rear, tow bar, dynamic pack interior, sport suspension and driving mode selector, simply clever, and aluminum wheels.

Researching online and offline, test driving and talking about cars is something i truly love. Im a former mechanic and still have my own shop where i fiddle with my El Camino. I grew up in a shop back when skoda's here were mainly something we made fun of!

Im 31, father to a 6month son, husband to a woman who understands and supports my car hobby. I dont live off working on cars anymore but service, repair and maintain industrial equipment for a large multinational company.

The reason i want a skoda is because it makes perfect sense here in DK. And they are aboslutrly beautiful on the road. And plentiful(cheap parts). Also, i love the idea of the MQB platform as a lifelong General Motors fan im used to parts interchangeability among different brands and models.

The only other family car i can afford that has 180hp is the Seat Leon St FR. I have test driven both a petrol and diesel bersion, and somehow felt uncomfortable in them. At first i was mainly interested in the Leon, but after testdrives only liked the 1.8tsi engine. So i found out skoda offered it, and started test driving octavias and superbs and fell in love with the octavia.

Peugeot has a fun family car as well, but it is much more costly. And it's french! My current DD is a Citroen and it starts every morning but is a complete pile of **** in any other measure:) no more french for me.

So, prepare yourself to be bombarded with questions about anything VAG, and i will do my best to help where i can myself.

Have a nice day:)

So far my questions are

- Dynamick Pack seats.. How do they wear? I have a feeling the fabric will get worn early making them ugly. Also, getting in and out of the car is a bit more cumbersome due to the lumbar support i feel. Anyone have experience with the seats?

- Tow bar. Can i fit it myself if i order tow bar prep, or do i need vcds to unlock something after install? I wont be ordering rear parking camera or sensors.

- Sport suspension. Is it worth it? Why not lower it myself and install shocks? The sport suspension only lowers the car 15mm which is not quite enough i feel. Too much space between wheels and fender

- Driving mode selector. Do you ever use it? I feel like it's a gimmick as it only changes throttle response and steering feel. Is it worth it?

- Aluminum wheels. Which size offers the best compromise between ride and handling? Future mods would include VRS brakes front and back which means i need at least 17inch wheels.

Thanks in advance
