buying a CR FL VRS

Featured Replies

Would I be mad to buy a FL CR VRS diesel (DSG) (such as the blue estate for sale on the forum right now, when I only drive 5 miles to work and back and 5 miles to gym and back every day?

At weekends I usually go out to peak district and i dont drive like a granny either.

Probably better off with a petrol, that sort of commute is no good for the dpf or egr, so long as your commute is about 30mph average you'll still get around 25-28mpg so it's not all bad

How many miles do you do a year though? If you mix it up with a lot of mileage as well as a short run to work it should be ok.

I use mine for my job as an estate agent, which means it does a lot of start stop. With all of the other longer mileage and journeys I do it's been absolutely fine so far.

I do say that it's quite a "needy" engine in terms of how it likes to be driven. And if you adjust your style slightly it will stretch the time between its active regens (a normal process/cycle for the car with DPF). Most diesels I have had previously were happy to chug away at low rpm. The vrs is usually in 3rd at 30, 4th at 40 to keep the revs a little higher than I would have in other diesel cars.

I have an hour's commute each way and in 46k it's never been an issue. Hope it doesn't start being one now I've posted that !  Commute is mainly A road or motorway if it's not busy, and the A road can be quite stop start with buses etc. Depends on your route and how hard you drive it I think.
