mk2 fl petrol vrs v mk3 230

Featured Replies

Hi all anyone come from one to the other, reason asking ive looked at a couple at 230s but really love my rallye green mk2 fl, i know they will be faster etc but in real terms is the mbq platform that much better like they say about mk7 golf over mk6, whats the build quality like? Its a big step for me as id end up putting 10/11k towards one, i know people say drive one and i have albeit dsg but i want a manual and not many around, any info would be great , cheers

The mk3 is a nicer place to be than the mk2 although I loved my 12' plate vRS diesel DSG.

The mk3 has the capability for more toys and options, the ACC and DSG combination is fantastic for the mundane drive to work.

I now have a mk3 TSI DSG as I have always had diesels but the TSI engine is a peach - providing you can live with the 15mpg drop.

The engine has 95% of the low down grunt but doesn't run out of puff when you press on, plus it warms up super quick.

Mines only a 220 as the finance figures weren't great on a 230, power is neither here nor there but the Diff and standard equipmemt make it worth it if you can get it.

I had two FL mk2's, now have a 230 mk3.

230 is a better car in all areas - so yes it is a step forward.

I had a MK2FL (though diesel). And despite my first views on the test drive that it's not a leap forward, after spending time in it, it is a leap forward.

It's lighter, yet quieter (atleast mine is compared to the diesel mk2fl).

Is it worth the money?.................Only you can answer that question, I'd take a good test drive on a route that you've taken your MK2FL and then make the choice.
