Fuming! Someone's crashed into our S3 and driven off.

Derv, I feel your pain! I really do!

The initial incident is bad enough (!) and then the whole thing is aggravated by useless muppets who can't do / deliver what they have agreed to / are supposed to.

I despair at this country, I really do!

Very, very best of luck getting this all sorted.

It will, no doubt, be painful, but you will get there. I hope you will be able to look back in a few months' time & put it all behind you!

All the best,

Dunc

Thanks mate, fingers crossed. I'm more annoyed it's basically a fault claim because there's no known third party so I'm screwed on that nice V8 I wanted to get next. :(

My wife just raised an interesting point. Someone has smacked into our car so hard they've broken the suspension... And the alarm didn't even go off. Reassuring... Not.

roughrider10 I know exactly what you mean, I'm the same. I'll happily go an extra 10 miles to shop in a store that requires £1 for a trolley (hence none floating around the car park), and even then park at the extreme back or in overflow where it's empty, where possible. Gutted to have it happen outside our own home after all that! I'll be getting a driveway laid this week so we can get the car in for the future. We have a drop kerb and double gates, just the S3 is too big for the current layout. That will change.

FelisBengalensis, it's not a case of having to have them shipped. They explicitly said they'd have to refuse the work because parts just aren't available, period. :o

Sorry your day has gone so badly wrong, I hope that all of your issues can be quickly resolved, the advice about reporting to the police and getting a crime number is spot on, this is criminal damage and I hope the ASS---- who did this to you gets found out or has someone F--K up their car.

My son reversed into as neighbours car many years ago, he immediately went and rang their door bell and explained what had happened, insurance sorted it out and neighbour couldn't believe that there are honest and upfront people still alive and kicking, sadly not many though.

Really sorry to hear that Derv. That's so sickening no matter what car you have but on your brand new pride and joy it's ten times worse! Small consolation I know when you are faced with a large potential bill, but at least you or your family weren't in the car at the time and nobody was hurt. Hope you get things sorted soon and hopefully somebody has seen something

Derv, I want to add the same comments as above in that I am gutted for you.

I would be telling the dealer that like it or not they will need to get it fixed, assuming it is fixable, and I assume they will be giving you a showroom car whilst the factory builds the parts and ships them?  Not sure where Skoda stand legally in selling a car and then refusing to repair using the excuse of no parts available.

I'm beginning to worry about Skoda's indifference when a problem or fault occurs.

Yes, it's very concerning tbh. I've had a flurry of calls this morning to say the car is now at the body shop, and I'll be getting a Mondeo 2.0 diesel hire car in the meantime. Could be worse then, I suppose. Fingers crossed they don't find much wrong when they assess it later. I've been reading up and apparently a rear wheel severely out of alignment can affect the steering wheel (i.e. not just the front wheels as I thought), so it could well end up being one scrape and a single suspension component and/or alignment. Fingers crossed!

This thread makes for sad reading. Looking at the damage I'd guess that the tyre/wheel has taken enough of a hit to affect the rear geometry. This could cause the car to 'crab' and would result in your off centre steering wheel. Fingers crossed it get sorted easily.

Thanks Pete, I'll get a call later to tell me what the repairs list looks like hopefully. As you say, fingers crossed!

Hi Derv, have you managed to catch the culprit yet?

Unfortunately not mate. Liverpool (where I live now) is a big city, and 'a white car/van/MPV/crossover' is an awful lot of suspects! On a happier note, we have the Mondeo 2.0 with the powershift auto now, and the bodyshop have called us. They took the £100 excess (boo), and said the engineers have been to assess the damage and approve repairs. They reckon it's just a bumper/quarter panel respray and a broken rear offside suspension strut to be replaced and 4 wheel aligned. It could have been a hell of a lot worse then, and yes I'll have the car back next week. Get in!   :sun: :cocktail:

Well at least that is a result for you....so hopefully by this time next week you will be back driving your powerful monster!!

That's fabulous news. I'm delighted for you, `Derv`.

Regards

Mike.

I'd be a bit concerned that such an innocuous-looking scrape could cause damage to not only the rear suspension, but the front suspension and gearbox too

If you read my last update mate it turned out to be 'just' a broken rear strut that knocked the geometry out, hence buckling the steering wheel and looking like front end damage. Everything else is fine bar the bodywork and rear strut.

Yes,sorry, I noticed that just after I posted

Glad it's getting resolved quickly, and good luck with finding the culprit

Great news mate apart from the excess.

Could have been a write off.

Thats a supermarket trolley handle dent!

A smart repairer just be able to pull it out  fingers crossed

Thats a supermarket trolley handle dent!

As above, or probably someone has been trying to fit a rake or broom into the boot of their vehicle.

My Staff Carpark is also the Long Term Carpark. Rather than return their trolleys to the correct stowage, I've seen people just push them into the middle of the road or into the bays opposite, even with cars in them.

It really wakes you up at 05dubs doing the Trolley Slalom.

Some scrote keyed my S2 today. Two hours work with the DA polisher and magic Sonax has done the biz. What is it with people?

Flippin nora, we're all having the bad luck lately. :( Sorry to hear that Phil but I'm glad you managed to sort it out mate, I love Sonax stuff. That and Bilt Hamber are cheap, very effective and underrated imho.
