Superb 2nd service price on 64 plate cr se 170 manual

Featured Replies

Evening all I'm about to buy a superb but the salesman is telling me the car needs a service in January and it will be the second service which is the full one by all accounts the car has 16k and I won't be doing a lot of miles up to then so the question is exactly how much would it cost me at a dealership roughly? Because I've only put a deposit on the car and I'm going to test drive and meet the salesman on Saturday personally I want them to pay for it / do it in January this is going to be the deal maker if he says no I might end up walking away from the car even though it's the one I really want and he's giving me a poor bottom end price on my car as part ex so I think i should have something to bargain with what do you think gents

Thanks bob

The Skoda website says it's £269 fixed price for a major service....... http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/simply-fixed/pages/default.aspx?gclid=CIbcmqT_w8wCFZEy0wodrgkLTA

If it's not due for another eight months I'd personally say it's a maybe a bit far away to expect to get it done now. Maybe if it was due in the next couple of months you'd have a better chance of them doing it for you.

but after saving all my money for years and years and spending it all on a car 15k then 8 months down the line having to fork out all that money! That's the bit that's doing my head in but I'm definitely going to ask and if not I want a couple of hundred of the sale. But thanks for your thoughts and the link :)

Thing is where do you draw the line? Servicing, MOT etc.... is all part of owning the car and at eight months I think it's a little too far away.

I'd be looking more at other little things that may need doing to the car.... Tyres, general bodywork issues, alloys, interior issues etc.... that may want doing. You're more likely to get things like that done as part of the sale. ;)

This is advice that should be taken.

You are trading in a car against another and all that maters at the end of the day is this: cost to change.

No matter what he gives you for your car, what he charges for the Superb, what he throws into the deal - all that really matters is the amount of money you hand over.

When I bought mine, the value he put against my trade car was €300 less than I was willing to accept. Now, I knew I would be wanting the Skoda net system for the boot, the steel Skoda Dog Guard and fitting, Skoda mud flaps and fitting, new mats and a Skoda rubber boot mat. Things like that were easy and cost effective for him to give me.

So, I didn't get an extra €300 for my car - but I got work and accessories done that would have cost me over €400. Should I have walked over the €300? I think not.

As WaveyDavey said - look for other things that need doing and satisfy yourself that you are getting a reasonable deal that way.

Just to add to what Robin has said..... For myself I bought mine in June 2014. Again the dealership weren't really moving on price but I did get the following sorted as part of the deal.......

I got a couple of marks on the bodywork sorted out by their bodyshop

A new VW branded car battery was fitted

A full set of Skoda Superb branded carpet mats

The car was MOTd (even though it wasn't due for another 4-5 months)

It had a new tyre fitted as one was slightly damaged and was picked up in the MOT (the tyre fitted was a Kumho and not a budget brand)

6 months tax

Think it was something like £25 of fuel.

The things I had done were probably in the region of £400-£500 if I had to pay for them all but it meant the dealer got the screen price and gave away a few freebies and I got the equivalent of a few hundred quid off etc.....

Also I personally wasn't bothered about getting the maps on the Columbus updated to the latest ones as I knew I'd be sorting that myself but it is something for you to consider asking them for as part of the deal.

I never said I would use the dealership..... But the OP was asking for a price on the service by the dealer. ;)

I have my own VAG specialist I use in Sheffield for both our cars. :)

At 2 years old and 16,000 miles the car will not need a major service.

All it will need is an oil and oil filter change (£149 minor service).

The major service (£269) includes air, fuel and pollen filter which you won't need until at least 3 years old / 60,000 miles. Check the service book (if it has one for the exact detail).

Make sure the service computer is set to fixed (10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first) given your low annual mileage, and not the long life / variable interval.

If you are buying from a franchised Skoda main dealer you might want to enquire about any possible servicing deals they have that will see you through the next few years.

Autosales really hacked me off telling ME when I should have services, its MY car you numpties, i decide

If you're not doing many miles then why not go petrol rather than diesel?

I would change the air and pollen filter myself. Less than £20 for both from ECP and dead easy to do.

I wouldn't let a £269 service be the reason to walk from a car that you like.
