after effects of a drink driver..

Featured Replies

Sadly - unless the owner took out a GAP insurance policy he wont get anywhere near the new value of the car

Many insurance companies will replace a car with a new one if it's written off in the first year whether you have gap insurance or not.

Even if they don't , they still have to pay enough to allow you to replace the car with an equivalent vehicle so they shouldn't lose out if it's written off

I could only disagree with one point - use of the non-emergency number in most cases would be a waste - I used the emergency number and the police that attended were more than happy with that - they actually stayed on line while I talked them into the exact location

If you use the non -mergency number around here :

it only gets an answer phone

i cant remember it:D :o

please use any number you can - get rid of the phsycopaths :)

You shouldn't get an answerphone in West Sussex, it is manned 24hr 365 days. And its an easy number too 0845 60 70 999. That was from memory btw. I used to call them at all sorts of hours of the night in my last job.

Gutting.

The Clio is definitely a write off - hope she gets a good price for it - and a nice courtesy ca for the mean time.

I wrote my clio off earlier this year - was 98 R same shape as the one in the pic. Got

Edited to remove incorrect number, hope no-ones taken it as gospel already.

Our local non emergency number is 0845 045 45 45 I think

We sometimes have to use it at work and at first it was really hard to remember. We had to put little signs up because we kept getting the 045 mixed up with just the 45.

We used to be able to ring the actual station but now the Island has a 'desk' over at Netley (Southampton) but that is a whole different subject

Non emergency number is actually - 0845 46 47 (in the UK obviously) at least thats the Sussex number, i assume its nationwide though.

The Sussex Police site stilll has the old number on, as does Yell.com, I've just checked both. Maybe they are rolling out a number but it's just taking a while. Non-emergency numbers are not nationwide, yet. Maybe thats the new number though?

Sorry, crossed wires and all that probably. If you know someone is likely to be drink driving in the near future (after another pint for example), then non-emergency. If they are driving, now, then there is a risk to life or property now so 999. Thats just how I was told it should be used. I could be wrong.

When i have used 999 for that the police have had no objections

That's the National NHS Direct number.

I thought that was for health questions (of a non-emergency nature) to save you diallling 999 for an ambulance.

I didn't think that number was for police-type questions as well.

this is my mums clio and her neighbours mg zt-t 180 after a drunk driver (twice over the limit) and speeding, hit their cars this morning 1:30am.

quick update, i got a few things wrong here. (second hand info, cant trust it) was speaking to the officer involved today and it appears the drunk driver was over three times the limit and drug driving, and his mate ran away when the police got there, got him now, they are up on the 19th of jan and his mates getting done with leaving the scene and aiding and abetting. and the car he was driving was his mums T reg Laguna. not his escort van. as the laguna was towed before my mum saw what had happened.

That's the National NHS Direct number.

Oh ****, yep you are 100% correct, that IS the NHS direct number - NOT the police non-emergency number.

My mistake, shouldn't have posted that without checking first :o

Hope no-ones stored that in their phone already, if so keep it but change description to NHS Direct!!

(might help if everyone edited the number out of posts that quote me, just incase eh!!)

i know its a public forum - but is anyone man enough to admit they have had a few drinks and decided to drive?

I did the morning after thing once, many many years ago when I was 17.

Finished drinking (heavily) at about 4.30am got up at 7am and drove to work, I was still aware of the fact that I was still very drunk but managed to get myself to work without crashing! The problems began when I got to work though, I was fitting aerials and satellite dishes at the time, after vomiting in a customers front garden, nearly falling of a roof and droping

In my younger days yes. But I was stupid then and sometimes you have to do something stupid to realise why it's stupid. I couldn't have been much over at all, but I just couldn't go properly at all, I got out the car park and the way home was pretty hairy. My parking was awful too. Only done it once and wouldn't do it again, I know how hard it was and would no doubt crash if I wasn't so lucky. Almost as bad as me being asleep at the wheel, except if I crash while asleep, I won't know what killed me.

But I'm about 3 years older now and wouldn't do it again.

i wouldnt dare do it again - too much to loose and not worth it if i were to hurt, let alone even kill someone for "just one more pint". Bo77ox to that!

I think a lot of people get tempted but i'm too old and wise now!

i still know several people that do it, even though they live 1 mile away from the pub.

duplicated msg - sorry
