MY17 L&K no petrol option

Featured Replies

Now that Skoda UK has updated the configurator to show MY17 ( there is a footnote on front page of website that confirms this) it appears L&K range is rationalised.

The petrol option has gone. Now just some 2 litre diesels.

The one reason to buy it, the 1.8 petrol is no longer available in UK (but since the power of the 1.4 was increased was there a big enough difference between the two engines to justify it ?)

Can't really see the purpose in what's left of the range, virtually everything you want (except brown seats) can be added as options to SE-L spec. Generally works out cheaper. If add too many options Superb SE-L can be cheaper as that already has them included anyway.

You cannot have the 4x4 in SE-L, but if all wheel drive is your main priority would probably look at Scout, or Yeti instead.

The days of the Octavia L&K must be numbered, it's equipment levels are not as high as the Superb so has it effectively been killed by its big brother.

If L&K means comfort, then I'm not sure how a noisy diesel can fit in this mix.

Diesel is always justified by economical aspect, never comfort.

Sounds like Skoda is taking a strange turn here...

Thats a odd choice.

The main reason I ended up with an octavia was the combination of peteol, autobox and 4x4.

And a SUV was out of the question....

Strange decision by Skoda doing away with the petrol in the top of the range car, I've probably decided that I won't buy a diesel in the future

Must admit I was very impressed with a friends Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV this week.  Plug in hybrid Electric motors straight to the axles with engine feeding a generator with the ability to directly feed the from wheels when at speed (no gearbox!)

As most Octavias sold in the UK are VRS models, the have petrol, diesel, 4x4 and auto covered anyway.

comment deleted - I was in the superb configurator...... :dull:

SurreyJohn if thats the case I tend to agree with you, sounds like they have outpaced themselves replacing with the bigger car.

If you want petrol then Superb 280 would be a no brainer?

That said its less consumer choice. Both superb and octy are huge but superb is huge-ist and put a lot of people off buying ;)

Also .... on the basis of car ranges and sizes, isn't it about time they also offered something a bit smaller without losing anything stripped off akin to a Rapid vRS IMO.....

I've mentioned it before but it nags me everytime I see such oxymoron as "Rapid" without any configuration for RS....same applies to the (Not!) Swift.

I feel sorry for you brits :-)

The only right Octavia is 1.8 TSI DSG 4x4 L&K !

But L&K = comfort ?

No, that's not the case since it has 18" alloys with 225/40-18 tires..................

I'm wondering how my car would be like to drive if I changed it to 195/65-15 :-)

I have test driven a Superb and liked it, the problem is that parking spaces around where I live aren't marked out for such big cars, it's 0.4m longer than our old Octavia L&K and longer than the 4.8m parking bays in this part of the world. Also I didn't really like the dark brown seats so never bought a mk3.

I too wish they would offer a physically smaller car with top equipment.

It annoys me you can now have fast (vRS) but not comfortable/luxurious at same time, it's one or other, unless you are prepared to have the massive Superb. I do wish they would bring back compact and luxurious. If they offered a Fabia sized L&K then I would order tomorrow

Its a good point John.

Very few luxury smaller cars these days, they tend to be normal spec or sporty.

I guess the only thing you could do is spec up an A3 or Golf and put leather on it, or maybe a Lexus CT.

Or the DS brand from Citroen. Apparently luxurious boutique inside, but drive like a bag of crap. Don't do French cars anyway, for to complex and unreliable.

Did you used to like the 90's Rover 216 GSi with leather, night fire red over anthracite paint, wood cappings and cross spoke alloys? I used to sell those in a former life..

Not surprising given the way VW have gone with the passat - no petrols at all as far as I'm aware except for a hybrid.

If you were looking for a "luxury" small car without the awful image of small BMW/Merc you could consider Volvo but although they're nice cars they're a bit old manish (I'm looking to replace the octy with an xc60) and no 4x4 on the smaller ones - still at least they still do petrols.
