Mk1 Fabia VRS for a comfy long distance commuter?

Featured Replies

Afternoon all

I'm back after a spell dallying with a few other brands selling the Octavia VRS tdi

Now the VRS was the ideal mile muncher but seriously let down by the seat comfort, 1 hour tops without pain in the derriere and numb right leg which is think was down to the cushion being two narrow for my backside! ( 17-18 stone currently and diets going well ta :-) )

Anyway as I've moved to the peak district recently I need a mile muncher again for the 100 mile a day commute and time and again i keep looking at the mk vrs as an option as familiar with the mpg the old 130 pd can produce but real question is how comfy are the seats in the VRS?

Are they narrow and uncomfy like my mk vrs octavia? or are they one of a diminishing number of all day comfort cars?

Thanks in advance

Phil

I can't say I have ever sat in an Octavia to compare it to, so don't quote me, but I would of thought an Octavia would have slightly wider seats than the Fabia?

Personally I don't have much trouble in my Fabia, I can drive for three or four hours without much trouble. Cruise control and the addition of an arm rest somewhat improve the overall comfort though.

It's a shame you can't borrow one for a day/weekend and do some long trips in one.

I do around 50-60 miles a day and find the SE's leather seats comfy. Although it takes a few minutes extra to warm up on a winters morning :)

I'd get a Saab 9-3 TDI, best seats ever.

Before i went crazy with mine it was very comfy and munched the 500miles per week with ease. Now its damn hard and loud, but i still munch the mileage each week because its hilarious to drive!but, i am a slim type so its easy to say its comfy.

So far most comfies I've had was in my discovery td5 but it cost £1200 a year more to run :-(

I'm not massive, being 6ft helps to spread the podge about a bit so I'm wider than the average bear  :bearhug: but seems some seats suit me better than others

Did that include the annual replacement cylinder head castings?

I found my Dad's octavia seats way comfier than mine

I had a 95 aero, they truly are the best seats ever, especially when heated.

The octy is a decent distance runner, I have no problems in my Ibiza though which is a harsher standard ride than the Fabia, just did 200 miles today and yesterday as it goes.

MkI Fabia vRS seats are crap IME. Not very supportive and a PITA to keep clean unless you have leathers.

I've a set of 9n Polo GT seats in my Fabia. Much better, more supportive and comfy enough for a 160 mile weekly trip to Staffs.

Also heated and two underseat storage boxes.

Nah mine was a facelift 04 plate so had later 15p coded cylinder head which isn't made of out used kitchen  sieve's !  most reliable vehicle I've ever owned tbh

The fabia is okay for a few hours esp se with leather but once you start modifying it's uncomfortable lot of people complain about the pedal arrangement mine was quite uncomfortable for a few hours and was a big factor why I sold it.

Not too bad, certainly keeps you awake lol

Getting cruise control retrofitted definitely made it a lot more pleasurable to drive otherwise i'd be in pain after a 3-4 hour drive without it!

The seats make a big difference, the standard cloth seats were no good but upgrading to octavia vrs half leathers with lumbar support made it more comfortable, being half leather i dont have to burn in the warmer weather either

Mk 1 octavia vrs seats?

Can get on with the mk 2 VRS seats

I found the standard cloth seat very comfortable (6ft 12/13 stone) many times I found myself driving long distances like to Devon to pick up a part up from Devonutopia turning around and driving another 3/4 hours home, Or to the south of France non stop.

The SE leathers are more comfortable but since putting a bucket seat in believe it or not I find that even more comfortable.

Longest run I've done was to Aberdeen, 585 miles 10hrs drive. Great for having a kip in on 30 minute breaks.

Yep

I'm a fat lad (6ft and 20stone-ish) and my backside and right leg go numb after a bit. The numb bum disappeared in the Caddy but the dead leg stayed until I Retrofitted the cruise. For a mk1 Fabia VRs I would recommend a larger model seat from golf, octavia or something, and definitely cruise. Can always jump on the pedal for the fun bits, then click the cruise on for the boring stuff. I've just got to get around to fitting the cruise to the furby.
