Washer jets No use

Featured Replies

Well they have been for the past 2 days.

Takes me 40 mins to travel to work and even when I get to work their still bloody frozen. Really isn't good. Why dont we get heated washer jets over here.

Anybody got any tips to stop this happening or how to unfreeze them?

Buy a house with a garage.

Use a really strong mix of screen wash to water.

If the screen wash is mixed to the correct strength then they wont freeze.

The best way to thaw them is to leave the car in a warm garage for a whilst, then put the correct amount of screen wash in the bottle (dont forget to pump the older, weaker screen wash throught the pipes, otherwise they will just freeze up again!)

Dont pour hot water over them - hot water freezes quicker than cold.

Use a really strong mix of screen wash to water.

Dont go overboard, i had to flush my system through after i bought the car as it was too strong, it then leaves a horrible jelly type residue down the side of the screen and on the paintwork. I then put the VAG screenwash back in mixed to -10, no problems since.

I had nothing but trouble with mine yesterday while trying to complete a 300 mile journey:mad:

Ive had four skodas and this is the first time ive had grief like this, I had to stop countless times to play around with screen wash and clean the windscreen.

Complete nightmare and must of added close to an hour to my journey time.

Skoda really need to fit a heated system to the washer jets or at least offer it as an option.

I've not had mine block up yet - simply use a good mix of non-VAG screenwash to water - perhaps 5 to 1. Sure it stinks, but it makes me high. :silly:

vag reccomend a mix of up to 50/50 in cold temps

ditto here no problems in the 18 months of ownership with mine. And I eco the comments above

Use warm water and they are fine. (Pour it over them) I did this this morning ( -8C)

we've run undiluted washer fluid before now in the imprezza - like Jason said it stinks but works.

I'm running mine about 50/50 like Colin G (VAG stuff) and even the back one's been fine so far. Guess it's just a case of upping the concentration

Even better, put a towel soaked in warm water over them.

Warm seems to be better than hot. I have heard of people pi$$ing on door locks to unfreeze them. Just a few seconds and urine side!

De-icer and water mix works best :D

higher mix it is then.

cheers

I had heated washer jets on my two previous cars, they were about as much use as a chocolate teapot, yes the water is warm but the tubes from the bottle and the jets still freeze up, so what's the point.

I certainly wouldn't waste any money on them if they were an option on the VRs.

ahh, i just use a bit of washing up liq and water:O smells nice!

lol that explains them freezing!

Well filled mine up last night with a stronger mix. Fine this morning more it was much warmer. 2C:D

hi guys n gals

just had major probs with our new fab vrs.

like mentioned in above, got caught out with not enough screen wash in fliud and froze the washer bottle,, ok not the end of the world but when the missus keeps tryin them with the motor froze, the fuse blows, the same fuse that the fr wipers use,

so no fluid and no wipers last night to drive home from work!!

out comes the hand book to see the fuse diagram and.... it bears no resemblance to our fuse box??

took it to skoda this morning (couldnt see a think for 8mls) fuse 21, four rows across and five fuses down, 10 amp ,presto fixed

advice from skoda ,,,if its really cold try not to use the screen washers!!!

aparently the bottle is in the left wing and the feed pipes up to the screen are not protected that well.

am i missing some thing or due to the fact the wipers and washer are on the same fuse? is this not a major saftey issue/fault????

what abt the central europe cars which have to cope with much colder temps

do thay not use the washer bottle when its icy?

halfords have screen wash for -10, but if you add in wind chill at 50mph will this work in exreme cold?

sorry if went on and will look for your views on this

thnx gw

Des[/quote']I had a Saab 900 once where the washer pipes are run over the top of the engine. If the engine got hot for a sustained run, all you got was steam out of the washers! You can have too much of a good thing. Decent washer fluid is the answer for the Furby.

I'm of the same opinion. Had heated jets in my last car, but the fluid froze on the way to the jets

I've had no problems with the front ones this year, but yesterday the rear wash stopped working. Still not on this morning. It's not leaking inside the car, but I found out that the fluid is coming out just behind the sump!! Do you think the pipe to the rear's popped off? Any advice, or should I just increase the concentration of screen wash in the hope that it's still frozen down there and that will thaw it out?

Steve

Sounds to me like the pipe to that back was frozen and using the rear washer blew the pipe off the joint. Have a hunt around under the bonnet and see if you can re attach it.

Had a nightmare with my Beemer yesterday. Not sure if it is frozen or something else?

Motor seems to run but no fluid. Topped up bottle with loads of concentrate & pored boiling water over jets but no luck.

Bottle a bit gungy though are there any filters that can be blocked?

Car usually lives in garage but new Skoda has pride of place!

Cheers, forgot to edit my post to say I'd sorted it. The pipe join right at the back of the engine bay had popped off. Re-connected, added some more concentrate, so hopefully it won't happen again.

Was surprised to see it was just a straight pipe-pipe connection. Maybe if it had a metal join it wouldn't be so susceptible to coming off?
