The dreaded P2015

Afternoon all,

 

I have been getting the dreaded P2015 and engine management light over the last 2-3 months on and off, the flaps are movable by hand and the car is running fine, (no idle issues).  I have search for info via this forum and read lots of good stuff.

 

My question is this:  Is this something people have seen on low mileage cars as most of the ones i have read about are relatively high mileage?  my car is a 60 plate and its on 34 thousand and i do a mixture of motorway/town driving and normal/spirited driving.

 

The only engine mod i have is an open intake within a BSH True seal box and Skoda have said i need to put it back to standard so they can do proper diagnostics as they are getting false readings.

It's possibly carbon buildup.  Your car is considered low mileage for this to occur, but it's not terrbily unlikely. I've seen threads/videos where the buildup is surprising on a car in the low 30s like yours.  As the arm for the runner popper off at all?

 

The buildup is more likely to occur from urban driving as there is not the rush of air from the "italian tune-up" to clear the carbon/oil deposits.  Given that a new intake manifold and carbon cleanup at a VAG indy is £600+, I'd be looking at temporarily returning your car to standard and getting it looked at under warranty whilst you can.

I'll have to look and see if anything has popped off, I bought the car of my Dad 2 years ago so i don't have a warranty i'm afraid :-(

I see, not to worry.  Replacing the IM is a big job, but if you're confident with a tool kit, you can do it yourself. I managed it, and prior to that, all I'd ever done is change a throttle body, or air box etc.  That's if it needs doing. Are there any other codes, or just P2015?

 

If any pipes had popped off, I'd assume you'd get vacuum errors etc. also.

I bought my VRS from a garage around September last year, so had some warranty with the car. Lucky for me, as I had the same code pop up 2 weeks into ownership. A new intake manifold was needed and mine had only 31k miles on the clock, so it is not unusual for them to go wrong early. The bill from my local independent garage was just over £500, but as I said, the warranty covered it. Sorry to hear yours has gone, especially seeing as though you have to shell out the cash for the repair yourself.
