Driving in France - light deflectors ?

Featured Replies

Hi - taking my car over to France next month, I have the VRS so have the xenon lights.

I noticed the other day when playing about with the settings I could select what side of the road I am driving on - is this all i need to do to set the lights up for driving in France or do I still need the beam deflectors fitted?

cheers

Yep. Just change the settings in the infotainment system, no need for beam deflectors or beam benders.

Just remember to change them back on return to the UK.

Doesnt the car do this by itself if you have satnav?

Am I right in thinking that if you have Nav then it detects that you aren't in the UK and it does this for you automatically ?

I'm sure I read it somewhere and thought "cool"

great thanks for the quick response all

re the auto change I will try it and see

Hi

My vRS spends more Time driving in France than the uk!. Mine has satnav & adopted lights fitted, it knows where you are, and adjusts them accordingly !! And tells you sound when you turn on the ingintion that the lights are set for the left or right!!

Just wish my Monte was so clever!!

As posted by others, the SatNav will recognise when you have crossed a country boundary.

It will inform you of the new speed limits in the country you are entering & when going from UK to Europe (or vice-versa) it will also inform you that the headlights have been adapted for left/right hand driving.

Nothing for you to do except show you passengers something else "Simply Clever" about your Octavia ;)

I thought if you drove in France you had to have yellow headlight covers of some sort?

Not for a very long time. I've been going to France and Belgium for the last 15 or so years and never had deflectors or yellow headlights.

We're off to France in July. I know we have to have hi-vis jackets and a triangle etc, but do we have to get deflectors for the headlights? We have a 1.0Tsi SE so just the standard headlights

If you have halogen headlights then yes you should fit stick-on deflectors as there is no adjustment for LHD/RHD.

If you have Bi-Xenon or LED headlights and sat nav then they are supposed (but some owners have reported problems) to automatically adjust.
