Rear towing eye to lock bike rack

Featured Replies

Hi there. Wondering if anyone has used a saris bones type bike rack on there octavia (I have a vrs estate) and also fitted the towing eye on the back to loop a cable lock through it to keep the hikes secure?

Wondering if that would work and in a purely cosmetic way how easy it is to pop off the little plastic cover and refit without damaging it.

I would think they would pop out quite easily, as I had the tow bar fitters take off the back bumper yesterday I could see it from both sides, just push one side and it then pulls out. I of course won't be using the tow eye for security as the fitting of the tow bar removes the hole it screws into! (It does show how they come out in the handbook too!)

Cheers. Yes popped the cover off yesterday. Quite impressed that there is a tether on it so it doesn't just disappear into the ether.

Dare I say "clever"

I'm also looking to get a bike rack that will fit on a rear tow ball, instead of lifting the bikes on and off the thule roof rack.

How much does it cost for a VRs Tdi hatch for the tow ball, fitting and a 3 or 4 bike rack?

Can you offer any advice of what to avoid or lessons learned?

Cheers,

Andy
