Led light kit

Featured Replies

Has anyone successfully bought and fitted led bulbs in tail light cluster. Flashers, stop/tail, fog, reverse without getting bulb out warnings to Mk 2 FL 2011? Also front flashers ?

Yup, if your BCM supports LEDs the warnings can be coded out with the right tools. VCP or ODIS-E are your best options as VCDS can't do it.

Thanks. No plug and play ones then ?

There are plenty that are described as 'CAN-bus friendly' despite bulbs not being on a CAN-bus nor needing to be. All it typically means is that an extra resistor has been fitted so that when the BCM pulses a small current through the bulb it looks more like a filament bulb than LED so doesn't cause a warning.

How well this work seems completely down to luck. Also, this extra resistor will just waste energy in the form of heat which has been known to melt bulb holders or worse.

Personally, a good quality LED bulb that is ideally 'CAN-bus unfriendly' and having the BCM correct coded for the LEDs is a better plan.

One other thing that might cause you issues, the rear cluster uses 4 bulbs for the tail lights. Two of these are W3W or W5W and the other two are P21W/5W. At least on my hatch, the 5W filament wasn't used, instead the BCM used PWM to lower the brightness of the 21W filament to the correct level. This will almost definitely play havoc with any LED P21W/5W you fit so worth checking before purchasing any.

Had same issue with my last car. Seems a lot of hassel lol prob just leave it be. Thanks for info

I've bought a pair of  581 Twenty20 Amber 92 LED 12V PY21W Indicator Canbus Bayonet Bulb.

Unfortunately my Octavia MK2 has reversed polarity so bulb doesn't work on front.

Didn't try to fit at back as it seems big.
