SatNav issues, recalculating the route

Featured Replies

Hi. I often visit family about 100 miles away. There are 2 sensible routes, both of which I know well.

I choose to set the satnav even though I don't need it, because it helps anticipate distances & times, and helps at complex motorway junctions.

If I set the satnav for route 1, then change my mind after 15 mins (which I can do) perhaps because of traffic warnings on the radio , how can I get the unit to recalculate the best route?

My old TomTom seemed to understand when I had changed route and, after a few attempts to get me back onto route 1, would recalculate the best route from wherever I was at that time.

The Amundsen does not seem to do so. It keeps trying to force me back to route 1, even when I am only 10 miles from home.

What am I doing wrong?

Sorry if this is a messy Q, it is not easy to explain.

Maybe you have it set for shortest route instead of fastest which will take you through every tiny village you didn't even know existed.

OK, this is in the 1st screen with 3 options ?

Mine loves single track roads, sometimes taking me off the main road and later rejoining it after a mystery tour>

Should be under Route Options. Always have it set on Fastest because it will get you there faster even though it may take you more actual miles. It also doesn't re-route you nearly as much.

What is the dynamic guidance all about ?

If the sat-nav picks up traffic on the calculated route it will try to find an alternative. I find it really slow tough

Route was set to 'most economical'

Thanks, does it listen to RDS data as well then?  (I don't understand)

Not sure if any of the above has helped you. BUT. My Amundsen appears to adjust itself pretty quickly. Maybe this is because there are alternative routes to default to when I'm driving, but the only time I remember it letting me down was when there was literally two routes down in the Brecon Beacons and I only realised afterwards why it was being so stubborn as the alternative took me way longer (distance). But if the routing preference hierarchy solves the problem, then happy days.
