Removing rear door trim

Featured Replies

I'm having trouble removing the rear door trim on my 1.2 Fabia while I try and install a central locking kit.

I've attached 2 pictures of where I've got to but the trim seems to be attached somewhere else but I can't find it. I'm a little worried about forcing the trim and breaking it so I've not tried to prise it off that hard. Do I have to do something with the window winding handle or will that come off with the trim?

Does anyone have any ideas on what I need to do next to get the panel off?

Many Thanks

The collar on the window winder pushes outwards (i.e. away from the winder axle) to release the handle and the collar.

I had this problem with my 1.4 classic, all doors! I gave up in the end :o

I think I just tried this but it wasnt budging?

Try from different angles. One of them will work (That's how they got it on in the first place).

when you mean the collar pushes outwards, do you mean into the door card towards the outside, away from the handle.

Thanks for that Bryan I'll give it a try in the morning.

Is the window handle the only thing that stops the trim coming off or are there some other things as well.

Theres a little ring between the actual winder, and the doorcard it should just slide to unlock the winder off, basicly slide it across its easy to find the slide slot, and then pull the winder off then give the door card a tug from the actual black armrest it then lifts off "upwards" letting the trim come off its all a bit tight but i did it when i retrimmed my old fabia:)

hope this helps.

Leon

Oh i think i get it, i'll try it later lol

Thanks for all the info so far however the door trim is still tightly in place!

It seems attached more at the hinge side of the door and at the base. I've taken a picture of a plastic "thing" that seems to be holding it on from the inside of the trim. There seems to be a few of these around the hinge side and base of the trim. It would appear you can't just pull the trim upwards as the "thing" would stop this movement. From the small amount I can see it allows sideways movement but I've given it a fair old pull in both directions (enough to move the car!) and it won't budge.

The one I've taken the picture of is the only one I can get access to, and that is very limited to say the least.

Anyone any ideas on the next step.

Thanks.

Finally the panel is off :) Thanks for everyone's help.

For future reference I removed the panel as follow:

1. Remove the small speaker grill next to the interior door handle. Do this by prising it away from the door hinge (horizontally and rearwards). It should then pop out, if you do it any other direction you risk breaking one of the catches (as I did:thumbdwn: .

2. Remove the small forward cap (upper forward part of the rest) on the armrest by prising it upwards from the side. Mine didn't come off fully as it was caught at the back next to the door trim but that doesn't matter. Next, with the larger upper rear part of the armrest force it towards the hinge of the door. This will undo the catches holding it on and you can then lift it off.

3. This reveals 2 bolts that you need to remove (10mm if memory serves me right).

4. The next step if the hair raising bit as I worried about breaking the trim. Start from the rear upper part of the door and carefully force a screw driver between the trim and the door. Push it in about 5cm and then move it downwards, you will come across a white plastic "thing" (technical term in Czech). Using the screwdriver prise the "thing" apart. It needs a bit of force but it will come. Repeat this for all the "things". A "thing" can be seen through the small speaker grill if you look downwards towards the hinge if you want to see how it works before you prise it off.

5. Pull the door trim upwards and it will come off (might need a little help by prising if off from the top rear first and working you way forward).

6. Have beer.

Now I've got this off I need to get access to the pillars but that is another post:D

I'd like to say thanks for all you guys help, especially the photos of the door handle. I couldnt of done it without the help given!

  • 2 years later...

My Fabia has the dreaded water ingress problem at the back (Skoda should be sued for that one!)

Anyway, I tried to take one of the door cards off to fix it but had problems getting the window winder off.

FOund this thread and tried to follow the advice - but I didn't really understand it all, and now I'm left with the door card still on and, worse than that, a chewed window winder that don't open/close the window anymore!!!

The wife's threatening divorce - help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's the collar?? Push outwards??? Do you mean pull outwards???

> Theres a little ring between the actual winder, and the doorcard it should just slide to unlock the winder off

Think I can see that - but it's a ring so it don't slide off - it just goes round and round...???
