Academic question - panoramic roof retro-fit?

Recommended Posts

One thing I miss on my Scout is a sunroof.

Before I bought it secondhand I had it in mind to have a simple open and tilt glass sunroof fitted ,by a local specialist firm.

But when I had ownership I realised that the roof lining had a raised  central division serving the rear courtesy light,so my plans were thwarted.

The only way I can see to do it would be to replace the headlining with a standard roomster one from a scrapyard.(that is assuming a standard car does not  have the central channel)

The rear courtesy light would be recovered with the wiring, and the sunroof fitted.

Not a panoramic sunroof I know, and I would be wary of the curtain air bags at the sides when installing the head lining..

Just my thoughts and I know deep down I will never do it.

I have a panoramic roof and it is a novelty at first but I totally ignore it now. For a start it is hot in the summer so I close the blinds and in the winter I can feel a chill from the glass so I close the blinds. My four year old grandson likes to watch aeroplanes through the roof but I would rather not have it. The roof must be weakened and I would rather have steel above our heads and not glass.

Same here. In this hot weather, the blinds are closed and it's still very hot inside. It doesn't open either, so not a sun roof in the real sense of the word, just a big window if you want to lie back and look at the stars at night, IMHO! :)

Yes standing looking at the car just now,the plans for an after market sunroof fit ,might not work due to the sloping roof line.

Im sure the roof would have to be flat.

So if you want a sunroof opening or other wise ,the only option I am afraid is to change the car.

Will the subroof be cheaper to fit than the quote to fix my aircon of £600 (condenser + labour) ?

Sunroof will be more expensive if it does have to keep water away from your car and last for years. :)
