Hot Day... No AirCon!

Found a place who will run basic checks and regas for £25 so I'm going to try that first before doing anything else.

Yep, easy to see once any engine undercover is out the way.   Just checked and confirmed G65 location as above pic, by unplugging that connector while VCDS was on measuring block 2, Auto HVAC module

  • Sorry I might be operating under the delusions of knowledge imparted by drinking wine - but, the compressor control signal wiring might just be one of the two sets of connectors under the battery area

I'd guess that he 898 fault is a bust wire, as you suggest.   The G65 fault may go away when the other is fixed, not sure. It's the sensor that tells the HVAC module what the refrigerant pressure i

Yeah if you had a gauge set you could have checked the pressures yourself, for that price you might as well get it regassed.

0 bar would mean no gas if the sensor/wiring is OK. You probably have a compressor shut off code as well relating to low pressure in the system. Do you know when it was last regassed?

All gassed, no leaks ... Still no air con.

G65 seems to be culprit or wiring

If it was the wiring for the G65 then it would be short to ground, not low pressure / signal?

Ross-Tech says most likely low refrigerant pressure in system.

Maybe, but 0.0 seems remarkably low. Chances are that it needs some gas anyway though, unless you know it's been done in the last 5 years.

Not sure vcds would spot the difference between a bust signal wire and a real zero reading? You'd hope so, somehow. Might experiment later.

No voltage at G65 ... Running out of patience with this car and electrical faults!

Where does the G65 wiring go?

  • Author

Errrr ...helps if I make sure multimeter is set properly!

12v at wiring ... :)

Sensor it is!

Wiring goes into scuttle area near brake servo i think.through firewall fromm there.

Off to buy new sensor :)

Fair play. :)

Fingers crossed this fixes it ... and work out how to get to the sensor to replace it! Looks tight in there ...

I assume I don't need to drain down system to replace? I'm sure I read somewhere this wasn't required?

Think I've read the same.

New G65 done ... No air con. Grrrrrr

Ok so ... Fault code has cleared ...

Compressor load on idle: 81%

5.8 bar pressure (G65)

Fans no workie...

  • Author

Ok, so fans have been tested by shorting thermoswitch wires ... I get slow speed and fast speed depending on which way they are connected ....

Thermoswitch ?

  • Sponsor

Thermoswitch not involved when AC module brings on fans. Look to fan control module next. AC module grounds a couple of the thin signal wires to this unit, triggering the relays inside. Wiring info coming shortly.

Have you let g65 pressure go above 9 bar? Cos I wouldnt expect fan action before.

No not let it go above 9 bar ... Still no air con though.

Time to test fan control module then ... Appreciate the help and info. :)

As it sits ...

Aircon should do stuff even without fan help, while pressure is low enough. Does the button light up? Got cabin fan running?

  • Author

Left idling for a while and G65 doesn't go above 5.5 bar ...

  • Author

Button lights up, switch on / off and compressor load drops from 80% to 0% ...

Cabin fan works on all speeds ...

Argh! Lol

So is the compressor doing any compressing?, Doesn't seem like it. The pulley hasn't sheared at the rubber coupling has it?

  • Author

How do I check that fella?

  • Sponsor

Not 100% as I haven't looked into it or seen one where it's 'gone'. I think someone once described it as the pulley going round as normal, but the central shaft not rotating, not sure which end of the shaft can be seen. Will pop out and have a look now.
