Philips Canbus error cancelling resistors

Featured Replies

Basically I'm wondering if anyone one else is trying to utilise these on an Octavia MK2 FL.

The only LED's which throw me an error are the ones I use for the front side side lights.

The Philips error cancelling resistors work in terms of preventing a fault however the heat sink does get hot and I'm not massively happy on my thoughts on a potential long term mounting arrangement... inside the headlight module.

I've tested it for a short time and the heat sink isn't getting ridiculously hot to the point where you can't touch it and it would instantly melt anything that came in to contact with it, but it does get hot and I wouldn't want anything in permanent contact with it.

Have any other fellow Octavians used these Philips gadgets and if so, how have you mounted the heat sink?

Thanks in advance!

Depending on the year of your FL, you might not need the resistors at all...

When I fitted led sidelights to mine I had errors but rather than fit resistors I coded the car using ODIS-e. I now have no errors and no resistors :-)

My car is 2009. I'm not familiar with Odis-e, is it similar to VCDS?

ODIS (Offboard Diagnostic Information System) is the system dealers use, it comes in two versions which are service and engineering. It's the successor to the older VAS-PC that they stopped using a few years ago.

It's similar to VCDS in as much as it's a USB <-> OBDII adaptor but it's very different hardware and software. The engineering version is quite powerful so it's able to let someone with the right knowledge correct the lighting config on PQ35 based cars such as the FL O2. Their is another third party tool called VCP which is also able to edit the lighting config but for various reasons, ross-tech haven't added the functionality to VCDS.

On a 2009 car it might be too old as the BCM's that natively support LED's came in around MY11-MY12. The only way to know for sure is to try it the coding and see if it's happy.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I think for the time being I'm going to explore a creative option with these resistors as they do work and are nice and straight forward lol.
