How to find software version etc on Columbus?

Featured Replies

Have read a few threads and thought by pressing and holding SETUP button would bring up software version info.

What I get is Radio service mode with FM AM options but not version option.

My car is April 2010 and one previous owner and I assume it's on original software and map.

Am I going to notice any worthwhile changes by updating software?

I'm in the same boat....2010 car and the unit works fine but I'm starting to notice a few 'hiccups' as new roads are coming into being.

I'll watch this thread with interest.

You need a vcds scan which will tell you the hardware and software of the unit, and also the maps version.

The hidden menu you need can also be enabled by VCDS when you have the scan done. :)

Thanks for the info guys.

So a VCDS scan is the way to go. Did I read somewhere there is a map of people who can do a scan?

Only had the car a day and never had a car with anything like a Columbus unit so kinda like what it does even if it is on 2010 software.

What would I notice that would be different if I updated?

Different start up screen perhaps, ability to have speed cameras and points of interest on the maps screen, radio text (telling you what's playing etc.) and a few other bits. Maps update would show you roads which have been built since the maps on there were made.

Couple of things, have sent a few pm's to people in my area who are on the VCDS but no replies. Don't suppose anyone in central belt Scotland would be willing to do a scan so I can found out version info and also enable hidden menu?

Also if I update to latest map will it enable 6 digit postcode input for navigation or does that come with a software update?

I'm a bit wary of doing an update in case I do it wrong and break the thing! Would like a more up to date map though and a 6 digit postcode search would be good.

You could pop the trim off from round the unit, undo the four T20 Torx screws, and ease the unit forwards. Then you'll be able to read the data label on top which will tell you a bit about what you have (like the factory SW and date of the unit). That'll give you a starting point anyway.

The 7 digit postcode is only with the software update, not with the maps I'm afraid.
