boot release 'motor' not working (been replaced)

Featured Replies

I have recently replaced my boot release motor as it wasn't working.

However there is no response from the replacement when i pull the boot release on the lid either. Any ideas what I need to do to work out what the problem is?

I am reluctant to go to the dealer to be charged £100/to diagnose then however much to repair. The new motor only cost me £18.

Thank you

Check wires from roof to tailgate

Thanks tony, do you know how to get at the wires?

I think it started when I over packed the boot, and tried a good old slam to close it. Oops.

Cheers

Near the hinge for boot lid u will have a rubber tube usually wires are broken in side the tube. Need to pop it out of the lid or roof and try push it back till u can see the wires or give the wires a tug and see if any are broken

Thanks again, I'll try and have a look today and see if I can find anything.

One other thing. If the boot handle lever is electric switch type it could be the micro switch thats faulty.

Yeah I was thinking something like that. As there is no sound from the handle which is electric. It does sound a bit more involved to get in to though.

Also how will I know if it's the switch?

Thanks again for your help, I am quite happy to stumble my way along fixing but when it comes to electrics I'm not very confident/competent.

how are you getting in to the boot ?

Via the back seats, I can open the boot manually using the catch inside.

Find the wire to the switch unplug the swith then bridge the wires to the lock actuator. I take it the button on fob not opening the boot ?

Thanks again Tony. Button on the fob doesn't do anything either. I take it to get to the switch I need to remove the trim on the boot lid? Or is the switch on the bottom of the boot not the lid?

My wife has booked it in to a garage for Thursday so I have dealine to try and sortbit myself.

Location im not sure. Not stripped one of these yet. Im guessing it will be in boot lid
