Help! Juddering clutch pedal now gone to the floor - AA Recovery :(

Featured Replies

First time on here so please be nice!

I have a 2010 Octavia 1.6TDI CR Greenline. Only done 36,000 miles - had 24 on when i bought it last year (14 months ago) from a Skoda Dealer.

Noticed clutch juddering when pulling off in 1st, so read on here and decided to have clutch bled. Could actually change gears - bonus.

Then this morning, driving along - changed gears and couldn't use any gear whatsoever. Clutch pedal to the floor and had to use my hand to bring the clutch pedal. AA Recovered to home address.

I'm dreading the Dual Mass Flywheel / Clutch. What else could it be? Master? Slave?

Just outside of the extended warranty - dealer are trying to help, but still have to pay £85 plus VAT on a diagnostic - even though in my view the DMF / Clutch or whatever it is shouldn't fail after 36,000 miles.

Had a 54 Plate Fabia 1.9TDI PD Estate which had 200,000 miles on the original clutch and only got rid of that as part ex'd it in for this one.

This one's has a new A/C Compressor (under warranty), and it's affected by the EA189 nonsense. Not impressed.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Wish i'd have kept my trusty old fabia!

Air lock in the clutch hydraulic system requiring pressure bleeding is my suggestion.

I've had the clutch bled using a power bleeder - which seemed to alleviate the problem. Could it be a Slave or Master? I doubt its the dreaded DMF as I do a 60 mile motorway commute at 60mph for economy!

I would be calling whoever did the last work bleeding the clutch as a place to start.

Hydraulics first, don't think it's clutch or dmf, especially if bleeding helped the first time. I have heard of the master cylinder pushrod snapping, and also the bleed connection letting air in on the slave. Change those first, no point suspecting the clutch/dmf without proper investigation.

octyal many thanks for your help. Got Intergears coming to pick her up this afternoon. Their prices are fully fitted, skoda want that just to take the gearbox off!

Sounds like the slave cylinder has gone.

Shouldn't take too long to find the problem, hydraulics are external on the 1.6D, so no gearbox removal required, only bits that are in the way like air pipes etc.

Just been told the Clutch has gone, and it needs a Dual Mass, although I've been quoted £650 fully fitted which i'm happy with. Still not happy with the service from my Skoda Dealer - shame they're not on the review section of the forum!

Have so thought about valeo SMF conversion kit as they seem popular with lower power diesels as I'm sure Skoda were replacing the 1.9 dmf with SMF when they failed under warranty
