Thinking of a vrs but concerned

Featured Replies

Hi .. please help .. sorry if been asked before .. looking to get a vrs estate .. but worried about the engine issues .. what do I need to keep me eye out for ..

I haven't actually found the 'one' yet. But we're hunting for a mk2 estate. Originally wanted a vrs but the engine woes genuinely scared me right off them. We've settled on a race blue monte Carlo estate with either 1.6tdi or a 1.2tsi (need to drive one of these yet) which ever one we get will bereaved so will be closeish to vrs performance hopefully without all the vrs worrys

Last is usually best - get a late 2013 / 2014 CHTE engined estate and you should be fine - buy the Skoda extended warranty online for peace of mind and enjoy.

Edit: Estates are rare though!

We've just picked up a vrs estate. It is a 2010 on a 60 plate as my wife's car and dog transporter. It was an eyes open purchase as I've read a lot about the oil issues with cave engines. I mitigated the risk as much as I could by buying a low mileage car (28000) with fssh and from a main dealer with a years warranty. We are about 600 miles in now and the oil is still in the top bit above the hatch markings, but has dropped a little bit. Probably less than 100ml. I expect to put a bit of oil in as it's a characteristic of the engine.

Of it does go post shaped I have the warrant to fall back on. My advise would be but from a dealer or of bought elsewhere get the official Skoda warranty, it is about 300 or so.

As for the car? Much bigger inside than expected, it gathers speed so quickly and the gearbox is brilliant especially on the paddles. Makes a nice noise as well. There is no comparable small estate for the price I paid with this level of performance and equipment.

That comes down to whether you do enough long trips.

But drive a 1.2TSI. You wouldnt be able to tell its a 1.2TSI if you weren't told before you got in... and the turbo isnt big enough to get lag, so its surprisingly good.

15-20k per year roughly at minute. Commute is 99% motorway house and work are less than a mile from the motorway.

I've recently purchased a vRS Estate have to say it's cracking motor so far it fairly shifts for a 1.4 having come from 2.0 Scirocco TSI

I've had my 14plate cthe vrs for 2years and never had to top the oil up, it's been the best car I've had

(Close 2nd to my Mini Cooper-s that I used to have)

Hi Dave,

I am sure that others will have touched on the technical side of the ownership experience, from my brief tenure with a VRS estate (only a few months ) the stand out negative issue to be aware of is the surprisingly harsh ride.

It isn't a problem for many but certainly check it out before purchase would be my advice.

Race blue? I guess your going for a mk3 fabia then?

I have a TMC tuning box on my 1.2 tsi 105ps and i can tell you that it is quite impressive now :)

I bet it does, esp in a fabia. I have driven the 1.2tsi 105 fabia n was impressed. More experience of it in a Yeti though as we've got one. It is a nice motor even in the bigger car.

I presume that was aimed at me? I thought it was race blue? It's the monte Carlo metallic blue. Hopefully go and drive a 1.2tsi see how it drives.

This is the mk2 forum?

As far as im aware the monte carlo only came in blue for the mk3 version (latest one)

But then there can always be cars you are not aware of.

On a serious note now. Is that race blue or can anyone give me the correct name for it.

Yes that is race blue

Yes that is race blue

Thought it was but I'm a little out of touch with Skodas offerings these days. There's 3 tdi estates in blue on auto trader. I just think it's being in right place at right time. I wanted a mk1 in blue but couldnt afford it had to settle for a black one.

Being like hens teeth does not mean that they do not exist.

(hens teeth dont, but cars in not UK order factory option colours do.)

Like the 3 x 69ps Mk2 Monte Carlo that were used for Media purposes and used to be kicking about.

Cars get built for other world regions and imported, get built for shows and photo shoots, and even special builds for a various other reasons.

(they could have been heading to Australia or other Right Hand Drive countries yet end up in the UK for 1 reason or another.)

You even get Spray Painters that do a full respray and colour change and do it properly.

Even on nearly new cars...

2 of the 3 Mk2 Fabia Monte Carlo Estates in Race Blue advertised on Autotrader are nice low mileage examples.

So are you saying they wernt released in race blue? Or is it a end of line thing like the mk1 se to get rid of old stock.

I am saying that there are Race Blue Mk2 Fabia Monte Carlo Estates for what ever reason,  you see them for sale.

end of line using Body Shells built or what ever,

so someone being 'not aware' means that you are not aware, not that there are none, its not rocket science is it?

Skoda UK Customer services are always there to ask simple questions of, because they are hopeless if you ask difficult ones.

Hi

According to the 2010 Fabia brochure (November 2014 revision). The Monte Carlo was available in 'Metallic Race Blue' as a standard colour but only for the Estate version.

You seem A little tense... You going to be OK?

I know it's not rocket science but I couldn't work out whether or not you were saying yes it's a factory colour or no someone has imported it/sprayed it. If it was the latter option then I would reconsider my search as I want a factory standard order model.

Its just George's way. He doesnt mean to be tense, its just how he types.

You'll get used to it :):D.

Correcto mundo.

& also i never noticed that i was answering the OP and not the member that was not Aware originally.

(should not have gone to Spec Saver,   not tense, just relaxed in the hills with strong cider.)
