Rear tire wear

Featured Replies

Hi all. Went and had new tires fitted today on my 59 plate vrs. My rear ties had a fair amount of tread left but wer shot on the inside edge. They checked the tracking and found i have 2 degrees combined rear toe in. When they went to adjust it they found that the arms were seized so couldnt adjust them. Can these be unseized or need changing?? And is the rear inside tire wear a comming thing on these??

Yes, new lower arms and camber bolts will be required. On top of 4 wheel alignment by someone WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING with a Hunter wheel alignment machine.

Please don't confuse my above capitalisation for shouting, I merely can't state enough how important it is to find someone who fully understands/can be bothered to use the machine correctly. In my experience, most don't, or don't bother to keep their setups up to date or calibrated.

Best of luck.

Uneven rear tyre wear is very common, usually as a result of incorrect alignment settings (hence importance of above post). Some tyres seem to wear worse than others. Try a search on sawtoothing, that's what the uneven wear is called, as there's a lot of chat about it on here.

Also incorrect tyre pressure for loading can be a contributing factor.

Yes the cam adjusters can be changed (there are 4 all up)

For anything more than a few years old...

Rear Camber should be -1 degree on each side.

Rear toe about 1mm inwards total (I have no idea what that is in degrees)
