Shock Absorbers How Long

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Just a simple question, how long will a shock absorber last.  The reason for asking this is that the rear nearside shock absorber was replaced last year for the MOT because it had a serious fluid leak.  Just taken my car into another garage today and found that both rear shock absorbers had a serious fluid leak.

The distance done in the car between the 2 MOTs was 10,026 miles so not a great amount of distance in the 12 month period.

I asked the person at the garage today if the absorber had been replaced and he informed me that when he asked the mechanic that it had been replaced that it had but was not a high quality product.

Any advice would be great please.

Thanks

I think OE are Sachs so Id stick to those or Bilstein.

always fit decent quality spares - the labour costs are usually the largest component of the bill!

my rear shocks were replaced in 2011 by skoda so OE parts, and still going strong and damping well in 2016...

my rule of thumb is @70K  ---- replace D'rectly :D      bounce test only tells you you're too late :nerd:      "discuss"
