Rear shocks

Featured Replies

Monroe, I've never considered that VAG would use them at factory, though these  VAG genuine spares in the picture could just be Monroe as well?

Typically all parts are either Germany made or made by German owned companies, I'll need to check up on Monroe as I'd always seen them as aftermarket parts, maybe my mistake though!

Mate, you just made me take a break in work time and look under car, hahaha.

For rear- Monroe with Audi/VW logo, gas filled, made in CZ (standard suspension).

Am driving my car from times when it had 0km (ok ok ok- 16km :-) on odometer- shocks are original ones.

But for Monroe themselves... in 90-ties, when Latvian spare parts market was fulfilled with pirate parts, Monroe was one of the worst.

Maybe now, when market is full of normal parts again, Monroe are ok- don't know...

Now you have made me look at the rear dampers on my wife's August 2015 Polo - I can't make out which brand they are, I usually record that and the part number for future use - but have not done that yet, maybe I'll remember to do that when fitting the winter wheels back on!

Edit:- I've just checked up on Monroe, they started life 100 years ago in Monroe Michigan, now they are manufacturing all over the world, well maybe not quite, but India, Argentina, China and obviously USA!

I did not spot any mention of "Woodhead Monroe" which was a name that used to appear in car mags in UK.

On mines', all data is stamped just little above bottom eye of shock absorber.

I'm making records, too (old school, you know)- about lifetime of components (km / date of replacement / brands, used for repairs etc.).

My furby still have all original shocks- 213k km / 9 years- still quite ok. OEM were made by Monroe.

Sachs come only for Polos, then ? Shame. I thought they do came as well for Fabia. I really couldn't tell the manufacturer of the shocks that came with my car. I saw nothing written on them. I got a pair of spare OEM shocks from a 2009 Polo. I had them for a while on my car for a while and now I'm keeping them as a spare for our 2nd Fabia.

There's nothing stopping car manufacturers using different shock absorber manufacturers at different times to make the same spec shock absorber.

In theory 'the same spec', because 9N Polos are more comfortable than Fabias and they do have 'basically' the same running gear.

True. With other parts, generally not produced by VAG- same story.

For example, mines' original battery and alternator somehow didn't matched with http://partscatalog.info/ > they were normally used only for Polo but somehow appeared on my Fabia, too, from factory.

Maybe in dealers' catalogue everything is shown exactly, with all "upgraded" article No., but in online web cats- happens that no.

  • 2 weeks later...

There's a set of bilstein b8 rear shocks of the sale section. Best of the best.
