Rear suspension Torsion Beam or IRS

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone direct me to a guide as to which models have the beam and which the IRS.

Is it only dependant on engine? or is it also dependant on Trim level?

Particular cars under consideration are:

1.6CR Diesel Elegance,

1.6CR Diesel SE,

1.4 TSI Elegance

so particularly interested in these but whole picture would be handy.

Thanks

Pretty sure these are all Torsion Beam, it certainly is that way on my 1.6TD Elegance at any rate. I think that it is only the VRS models which come with IRS as standard. You get used to Torsion Beam but it does seem like a step backwards technology wise and coupled with so, so suspension setup does make the ride quality a bit rough at low town driving speeds.

Just vRS and 4x4 I believe.

Bit more low tech but at least no more sawtoothing of the rear tyres lol

Yes mostly I'm thinking miserable penny pinching b******s,  but  ....... on the other hand thinking rear tyres should last longer

With Skoda only models with 4x4 or above 150ps.

As above, vRS, 4x4 and 180TSI which in UK only came in L&K trim but I think SUK have now dropped that option from the line up, shame cos it's a peach of an engine, SWMBOs Leon FR has it and with IRS it's loads better than my torsion sprung O3 was.
