audi A4 avant 1.8T s line?

Featured Replies

Hi does anybody have any views on this motor? Am maybe looking to get rid of the octy RS :( Or does anybody have any other suggestions as a replacement? it must be a hatchback or estate and have some go in it!!

cheers

KIT

Nice car.How about a new vRS though,Golf GTI or Focus ST.

The Avant boot is tiny for an estate. Why downgrade to an Audi?

Where's Kenny hiding?

Chris

lovely car, with the strong VAG 1.8t doubt u'll have any problems there

Chris

you rang :)

 you badge snob you

i have the s-line quattro saloon, had a brilliant octy vRS before it. downgrade you say? well if its a downgrade im glad i did :P

not sure what engine is in the one you are looking at, mine is the 190PS, very similar to my octy when it was standard, performance wise. i dont think you will be disappointed, build quality, materials and spec were better than the octy, handling is brilliant much better tbh.

most on here will dislike the audi, its all about personal taste really, ive driven and owned both, both are brilliant cars, i miss my octy but would i change back? sorry no, i would keep my current car, downgrade and all:rolleyes:

:)

I'm sure they are very good, and the boss' Audi A8 is very plush. There is a sense of smug satisfaction from being a member of the cognoscenti driving a nice Skoda. Carrying long, fairly bulky things at weekends, it's handy to have the boot of the Octavia.

A4's boot aint much smaller tbh, fold the seats down and you can egt plenty in, but yeah if your needing a huge boot octy is the way to go

I know what your RS is like Kit.... I'm not surprised you're thinking of changing...Its a very "loose" car...according to your local dealer. :D

I constantly park my RS beside my boss' A4 avant. They're essentially the same car, but you pay for the badge. They're a grand car. Let me know if you're looking for a replacement..... I have one or two contacts in Audi dealerships ( sorry that should read.. I have one or two contacts per Audi dealership :D )

I dunno about the Octy, but the A4 suffers from the same control arm weaknesses as the B5 and B5.5 Passats . . . they're a royal pain in the you know what to fix thanks to 4 arms on each side (or is it 6?), all of which suffer from poor ball joint bushings. Just a word of warning after my Passat, cost a fortune to get it sorted - might seem a bit petty, but believe me, living with the constant clunking and astronomical bills is not pleasant. :(

hmmmm not heard of this before, will keep my ear open :)

I believe latter arms arent as bad as earlier cars. Superbs for example dont really suffer with the knocking ball joints. There are 8 arms in total (four upper and four lower).

My Dad loved his A4 and really rated it as a drivers car.

But he recently got this and is soooo happy

More and more i see the A4 more i love it, Uncle has an A4 SE 2.4 V6.... really is a lovely car, new S-Line is brilliant, looks the business.

thanks for all the comments:)....BPM whatcha mean i have a loose car??? im sure my car will be very hurt by those comments!!!:) its one of the reasons why im getting rid of it,just cant get the set up right on it!!! even though its been remapped some days it pins you in the seat 1st,2nd,3rd then other days it gets past the turbo zone and nothing!!!Am just sick and tired of taking it to the garage :( ...of the course the other reason is that its attracting too much attention from theiving scum:( the gards who live next door caught somebody having a nosey about it at five in the morning last week when they were coming off night shift!!!

New car has to be a hatchback or estate so i can get the dog in and be sensible money!!...remember this is ireland cars are twice the price here!!!

cheers

kit:)

Hi KIT,

just wondering if you got your car remapped in Ireland and if so who and how much if you dont mind me asking...

hi fergal:)

i had it remapped by star performance in scotland. They just send over a wee box that you plug in under the dash, press a button, take it out and send it back. Jim then does the map, reloads it back onto the box and sends it back to you.You just replug it in and press the button and away you go.You can switch between the progarams when ever you want as standard and performance are on the the box.

it worked out about 500 euro but is well worth it for being able to switch when you want.

cheers

:D Savage, hmm sounds good, Star performance have a good rep with the scottish scoobie boys

just checked star website, looks like prices have gone up, changeover puts it nearer 900 euros now:(

dont know who does your conversions!!!:) i make it 731 euro which give or take a few euro is what i paid:)

have just asked the garage to have another look at my gear changing again!! it goes in in two weeks:).....pleeeeease let it be sorted this time!!!

k:)

hehe I normally just use Ft.com currency converter... ;)

even at 731 its much the same as Revo with Westward Eng in Enfield, decisions decisions!

whats up with your gear change? I ve had a new box in mine at only 35K :( under warranty though:) still doesnt instill me with confidence though, puts me off having a remap too...

  • Author

but you dont get the switcher with the standard revo deal, its about another 150 euro to get the switch box!!!

my gear box was always the same......but then i did find out that the car had been remapped after i had bought it....the garage didnt know about it until i took it to a remapper to ask him if it had been messed with....low and behold a super chip was found!!!:(

my motor has been nothing but problems since i got it!!!....its going through the stage of power then no power at the moment!!!! its never ran right since the first day!!!

the map works fine :) its just the car that doesnt always want to work!!! some days you hit the turbo zone and your just pinned to the seat thinking holy **** when is it going to stop accelerating!!! then some days it hits the turbo and nothing, no sudden oh ****, just acceleration with no umph!!!...if that makes sense!!!

k:)

have you brought to anyone other than a main dealer? does the problem come and go daily or could it be weeks? its sounds boost-control related, wastegate, nj75, dv etc...

do you get any check engine lights? have u used vag-com on it?

sorry for all the Qs im sure you've been through this already somewhere here...

I really like the S-Line Avant. Get one with the chrome roof rails in a dark colour and it'll look gorgeous.

it has a new N75 fitted just last week!!! it smoothed out the delivery but didnt sort out the lack of power!! all that happends now when its playing up is the car accelerates smoothly past the tubo zone but no kick or umph!! ten minutes later you get it to the turbo zone squeze the pedal and it just goes berserk!!!

Am taking it down to martin at westward next week for a few power runs, hopefuly one of them will show up the lack of power and will give me ammunition when i go to the dealer.

kit:)
