Why 75bhp and 105bhp

Featured Replies

So i've read the 75bhp and 105bhp engines are exactly the same, does this mean they have the same turbo, injectors, gearbox, clutch, flywheel, driveshafts etc etc?

If so, Why arnt they all 105bhp as standard then?

ive read they both remap to "around" 150bhp so which is best to go for?

the one that costs less to tax and insure :D

BUT are they exactly the same as above with gearbox, clutchs, flywheels, drivehsafts, running gear etc?

I think they are both £20 to tax as well :D

both cars are 2012, both are CR 1.6 TDI

Don't 105's get rear discs ? Others drums

No.

But a Greenline II might!

Different insurance groups for sure.

Nope, all drums.

The 75BHP model is insurance group 8

The 105BHP model is insurance group 15

so quite a difference i suppose, probably a real world £50 or somthing?

So noone knows if they are the same other than just the different remap from standard?

i thought the 105bhp has a dual mass flywheel so thought the 75bhp might have solid, so thought the gearbox might be different.

Just seems alot to remap a 75bhp car to 150bhp (ish)

Yes they are the same, 1.6 TDI CR 75 or 105ps Monte Carlo.  Oddly Skoda gave a different Kerb Weight, (lower) on the 75ps.

Same engine as a 1.6tdi CR 90 ps as well.

Yep they are all produced as a CAY engine.

Then the map changes is to a CAYA, CAYB or CAYC.

Thanks, thats what i was after really.

The one im going to get is a 2011 75BHP model, i was aiming to get one to around 220bhp similar to the 1.9 PD i've got, but was worried about modifying and pushing a 75bhp engine that much.

Im sure 200bhp is achievable with a few of the usual parts, Turbo, intercooler and exhaust.

Why even bother trying to get to that?

Check out what Brimma has done with his estate, which gives a pretty fast car.

I think the monte carlo was to appeal to younger drivers.

So 75bhp option could be ideal for a 1st time driver or such

The above posts are interesting.

My understanding from various sources including past posts here was that the 1.6CR TDI 90BHP & 105BHP were the same except for the ECU map but that the 1.6CR TDI 75BHP was the same block but mechanically detuned with a smaller turbo and possibly other changes hence both the quoted lower kerb weight and the bigger list price step from 75BHP to 90BHP than from 90BHP to 105BHP.

As far as I know all 1.6CR and 1.2TSI are rear drum brakes.

Threads on this forum when members first looked at Remaps said the Intercooler was smaller on the 75ps cars.

If you were to take either car to 200+BHP, wouldnt the intercooler be something that would be needed to upgrade along the way?

Not having any experience of tuning this engine, i don't know. But it's just an idea :D

I'll have to think of something dafter next time then so i don't disappoint :D

Injectors same/different?

I can't take my eyes off Wales to trawl through parts catalogs just now though.

It's all the same as far as i've ever heard mate :)

I guess create an engine, run 2 maps at 2 pricepoints, insurance points and what not and its the best of both worlds. The customer gets a cheaper car with the 75 and VAG make free money on the 105 for essentially doing nout. It's about £700 difference iirc?

You would be fitting a bigger intercooler,

and if you were aiming for 200+bhp with a 1.6 TDI CR it would be best to look at DarrellGB's thread on doing a Greenline Yeti.

Lots was learned by him and others on the journey to achieving what he did.

Had a quick read through, 2.0 cr170 turbo seems to be the way farward.

After reading others 220bhp seems a little high then, its only a target anyway, im not going to be upset if its 180bhp.

I'll replace the intercooler anyway so thats not an issue, pretty plug and play upgrade really and doesnt cost the earth for a full kit with hard pipework.

The injectors may be an issue as they arnt cheap and would cost around £1200 if i wanted to change them so hopfully the stock 75bhp ones are the same as the 105bhp ones and can handle 180'ish ok.

depends how easy the turbo fits if its direct or needs many changes like the GTB upgrades on the MK1.

First job will be DPF removal anywho....
