Direct from ŠKODA UK - Any experience?

Featured Replies

Hi Looking to buy a late model 2nd hand Skoda.

Checked out Skoda's used car locator. Some of the cars I am interested in are described as below.

This vehicle can be supplied direct from ŠKODA UK and subject to availability can be purchased by your nearest retailer as displayed here, or any retailer of your choice. This vehicle is not currently an Approved Used Car and will only be supplied to you by your chosen retailer when all the Approved Used Cars standards are met. Skoda UK has carried out checks to verify the vehicle specification. The recorded mileage has not been verified. A full vehicle mileage check will be instigated by your chosen retailer before it is certified for sale as an Approved Used Car. The named Skoda Retailer has independently determined the price of the vehicle and prices may vary.

So not with any dealer at present, but at Skoda HQ and can be purchased through your local dealer. - Catch is place order wait 2-3 weeks then see car.

Anyone bought a car like this from Skoda?

What has been your experience?

Either respond to this thread or PM if you don't want to say too much on forum

Before anyone responds with 'buy on condition'. I agree - Condition, Condition, Condition - every time.

Thanks

I am in the process of buying my next car via skoda used car locator.

These cars are in skoda uk stock, their adverts always shows the car on turntable and 3 photos with a description.

Last Tuesday i phoned the named dealer to ask if it was still available,it was so discussed trade in and some finance, haggled the inital cost down a little and a better trade in price.

Did all the finance checks on the phone and checked the dealers finance figures after they emailed my the finance quote.

Put down a deposit.

Car internet advert changes to contact dealer,so its off the market.

Collecting the car next wednesday.

So far have not seen the car or test driven it,some would say thats a very bad idea but its mileage is below 2k  and 6 months old and if i find defects on collection i have advised the dealer i will reject it.

I did a hpi check on my intended car and i was in for a shock, the car is advertised as an SE and the hpi check reveled its an SE L so a nice shock, havent told the dealer as yet  ..

I understand you can buy these cars from any dealer of your choice but you wont see the car untill collection, the dealer will get it a couple days before your agreed collection date, during this time the car will be checked over, mileage checked and what ever they do.

So far so good.

You're buying the car through a Skoda dealer, so you have a certain amount of security if there are any problems. Be aware that the car you are looking at could be an Ex rental car.

I also believe the dealer has to 'order' the car in, I assume he is stuck with the car if you don't want it.

Skoda have been doing it for years, their management in Milton Keynes run them as company cars for a few months as a perk of their job, they are then drip fed into the approved used car network as nearly new and Skoda UK can then determine exactly how many cars they register a month to ensure targets are met.

Here is mine I bought at 6 months old just before I sold it a few months ago. Best car we've had.

Skoda UK was the first registered keeper...

Looks very nice, particularly given photo was just before you sold it.

Hi Phoned Skoda Customer services, they were willing to provide details of first registered owners of 2 cars. : Hertz and Europcar, as they pointed out - Not necessarily daily rentals.

Phoned Ford direct about a car - a lot more cagey.

Ford direct has nothing to do with Ford, they do not have ownership details and even if they did they could not divulge.

Could accept the privacy thing if it was a private individual, but for a large company, I don't think so.

Should say the ex lease thing would not necessarily put me off, the thing that really puts me off is dealers who claim to know nothing of the history of their cars (other than it is immaculate) - and I am finding that to be very common.

I have been studying those "Skoda UK" cars too and even in some of the 3 photos, particulary the interiors, some of them looked quite well used for their low mieage.

Notice a lot of cars with dealers have been through the same photo session so presumably have came from the same source.

Also where you can see reg plates the bulk of these cars were registered at Maidstone DVLA office.

Infact throughout the entire length of the country there are a disproportionately large number of Maidstone registered cars amongst Skoda dealers stock.

I know that people move and cars move but I am still finding it strange how few Scottish registered cars there are with Scottish Skoda dealers.

Maidstone is not far from Skoda UK HQ but is not the nearest DVLA office. What is going on?

Scottish Registered cars for sale aplenty at Scottish Main Dealers which in the main are now Arnold Clark or John Clark Motor Group.

Cars at end of lease that were first registered in Scotland and being sent to the Scottish Auctions end up all over the UK,

and obviously some stay in Scotland.

There is really nothing special with 'Direct from Skoda UK' vehicles,. or Direct from Seat', VW or any VW Group vehicles.

The price is not especially 'Much Cheapness' and the vagueness and 'Need to know' way that 'Direct from' seems to work is just weird.

Particulary on the Volkswagen Das Welt site the cars from "Volkswagen UK Stock" some of them seem more expensive than dealer prepared vehicles pictured on their forecourts. Which seems weird to me.

When someone that works for VW or the VW Group tells you about all these Management Cars that are sold.

remember and ask how many each employee gets per year, is it a car every quarter to have so many cars from not so many employees.

Do all even get a car?

They are Fleet, Lease. Demonstrators, Media / Press and all the rest of the places used cars come from.

Maidstone DVLA office closed along time ago, it over 100miles to Skoda HQ.A Kent reg car will most probably start with a G.

Right enough 2013

So does this no longer apply?

First Letter G Second letter A B C D E F G H J K L M N O = Maidstone

First Letter G Second letter P R S T U V W X Y =  Brighton

Just that there are a lot of post 2013 cars with these registrations.

Or do the few remaining offices still use these codes to indicate the address the car is first registered to?

Thanks

My Scout is a Skoda UK car, dealer took a week to get it in stock so I was buying blind but no different to ordering new I suppose? Only gripe I have had is regarding the pre-sale preparation, mine was 4 months old when I collected so I expected it to be mint but it had quite a lot of stone chips on the front end that had not been rectified. I collected it in the pouring rain so didn't spot them until I washed it a few days later, had I seen them I would have insisted they were sorted before I parted with the money. Dealer has since offered to rectify though, so generally happy with my purchase.

Well 3 days of ownership of a skoda uk car  everything very good and saved £8k on new car cost.

Car in excellent as new condition and treated as a valued customer.

Appreciate if you don't want to share this info, but is the first registered owner of your car Skoda UK or is it a leasing company?

My V5 document shows the 1st owner as 'Skoda Auto' and not a hire/leasing company
