Featured Replies

I was just woundering how much  people are paying for there modified car insurance and who they are with as my insurance is due at the end of the month and admiral want an extra £100 on top of last years policy , i will give chris knot a call on monday morning as they are who i used the previous year and i will get a club discount, any other recomendations apreciated .

When I had my highly modified Skoda Fabia VRS Adrian Flux were the best with all mods and power stated HTH :)

I estimate I'm paying an extra £30 for my Shark Stage 1 remap.

Green Light - £400 mk2 vrs derv mapped, egr/dpf delete.

Admiral told me they dont insure mapped cars so if yours is mapped im shocked they are giving you a price.

Your quote isnt your actual price though. Its a rough guess to see what money they can get out of you

Admiral gave me a modified policy ,i have over 20 years no claims and a clean licence and drive propane gas tankers for a living and done several advanced driving courses  i dont know if that helped .

I paid 375 for a 450 bhp highly modified impreza last year via Keith Michaels.

Strangely only 75 quid more than I pay for a boggo standard 2012 derv vrs

I'm renewing with Adrian Flux at the moment, with a Stage 3 vrs (and lots of other mods), they wanted £800 but managed to get them down to £619.

The comparison sites made me laugh, they just returned sill quotes one I think was around £2000 :D

I've been insured with Admiral for years and declaring my Audi S3 as being remapped to 300 bhp 2 years ago and that didn't effect the price insurance at all.

Admiral said that due to it being a certain percentage increase in horse power it wont change my insurance cost.

This month I phoned Admiral to enquire about getting quote on my Audi RS3 to cover a remap as I was thinking about getting it done.

Admiral said they would just not give any cover to the car that had been remapped.

I don't know if Admiral are refusing all remaps or just on particular models.

My mk2 cost me 730 to insure fully comp then when i moved to modified policy it dropped to 480 with adrian flux, renewal came in at 415, but i opted for a more expensive option to allow me 3rd party cover for other vehicles. Not that much more though £511 30 years old 8 yrs ncb and an accident declared

£1,100 Adrian flux all mods declared stage 2 remap 280bhp straight through exhaust etc etc.. 21 years old 1year no claims 2 years driving, and only 300 quid excess, I was paying nearly just over that for my 90bhp corsa!

Who are you insured with and what was the total policy price thanks .

Am with Chris Knott now, about 350 per year but I live in a high risk area. When I first had the map I had to declare it and my lv premium at the time went up by 20 quid with 8 months remaining on the policy, hence my estimate of 30 quid for the year.

I insure mine through a broker called brentacre http://www.brentacre.co.uk/ always had good prices. They specialise in modified car insurance.

Adrian Flux; £400 p/a for stage 1 260bhp remapped 2011 Octy VRS, fully comp, with 2 years NCB, (previous company car owner), no accidents or claims. They were very helpful from the outset and very flexible towards my requirements. Their sales team were very friendly and not pushy, they are not commission based sales team either, which is nice.

Hi,

It's great to see so many members insured with ourselves.

Really appreciate it.

Regards,

Dan.

That's interesting as I'm with Admiral and when I asked about modifications they included remaps.

They mentioned to me that above a certain percentage would be more expensive but were happy with the gains from a Stage 1 map.  I asked them to quote me for a remap, lowering springs, non-standard wheels and a stainless exhaust.  They reckoned it would add no more than £40 to the premium but only the standard car would be covered.  I'd not heard of this before but apparently if the car was totalled or stolen they would only pay out for the standard car and not take into account the cost of the modifications.

What happens if your car is mapped and you haven't declared it with your insurer.

Then the worst happens and you crash.

Can they 'the insurers' find out if the car has been mapped and therefore void the insurance?

Asking on behalf of a mate  :p

Admiral took my insurance down from £390 to £280 after asking them what is the best quote they could do. So I'm wondering if the cheapest insurance they can offer will be minimum risk therefore no modification or other changes to the car which could make it a higher risk.

Just a thought why some quotes allow remaps and others don't.

My thoughts on the subject is that if the insurance company can avoid a pay-out they will.

They are wise to remaps and undeclared modification and will void insurance for even small changes to cars.

Here is a example:-

http://www.southwales-eveningpost.co.uk/neath-minister-told-void-car-insurance-covered/story-25956393-detail/story.html

And it could void third party claims as well.

For me it really is not worth the risk.
