New Member, Help Please

Hi Everyone,

Just stumbled on this website and glad that I did so, lots of info.

Could anyone please help with the following:

I am now a proud owner of a Fabia TDi and have been for the past 3 days. It has 52k on a 2000 reg with full service history. My problem is that the clutch seems to vibrate so much so it can make my foot numb. If the clutch is fully depressed there is no feeling there at all, only happens when you depress it down all the range. There are no problems in engaging any gears so does anyone know what this could be? bearings or what?

Your help in this matter will be greatly appreciated as I am going to take the car back to the dealer. (I noticed the vibration on test drive, they said it was because it had been stood for a while???)

Thanks

:)

Hi welcome to the group. They're a good bunch here and they'll be much more help with the clutch issue.

I just put fuel in and press hard on the right pedal - know nothing about mechanics.

Welcome fabtdi,

Your clutch problem does seem strange and I cant say I've had the same on mine.

Best get it checked by the dealer or big K is probably the best one to tackle this one. He (and his lump hammer) pop into briskoda now and again.

welcome again.

i would say that is was probably normal from the description are you getting clutch judder? the reason that you have a bit of vibration is the the engine produces alot of tourque from the engine and this is transfered through the clutch and up through the pedal octavias do not have this problem because they have a double mass flywheel hope this helps big k btw if your still not happy with it take back to dealer to have a look.

Thanks everyone for your input, I shall take it back while it still has warranty just to be on the safe side.

I think perhaps you may be feeling vibration from the engine through the pedal. I don't personally drive along with my foot resting on the clutch pedal, but either way, I've never noticed any vibration at all from any of the pedals (oh, apart from the rare time I've had the ABS cut in on swift braking)

Welcome to the site, BTW - from another old'ish "well run-in" TDI owner. :D

( and I'm not saying I am old, but the car - that reads wrong. And I am well run-in too. )

Unlike another member who has been well run into! Sorry, that is in bad taste... redface.gif

Well, it's not that bad as no one was injured, although the driver of the other car was lucky to not walk away with two black eyes, busted nose, concussion, broken ribs... And that's not because of the accident.

Car goes into the dealer next week for the clutch to be repaired/replaced. Just one weird thing though, have just received the log book from the DVLA and it states that the car is a 1.9 TDi Elegance, it's got Comfort on the side of the car??!!! Anyone know why there is a difference?

Cheers

You've got the same car as me - similar mileage too, and my car is officially a comfort, but according to my V5 and the odd insurance company mine is also an elegance.

Hope the clutch problem is sorted out.

Hi there Fabtdi!

Same car here (albeit in Combi variety) and no clutch problems yet at 2.5 yrs and 60k mls. Have had a driveshaft nut proiblem though but that was more noise than vibration!

I took the car to the dealer today and after 7 hours they say there is nothing wrong with it. I thought that this might happen so I took it to another dealer (12 month warranty booklet states you can take the vehicle to any dealer) a mechanic said he would have a look at it and as soon as he depressed the clutch he knew it was not right! So me thinks! take it back there and see if they could sort it out, and no, I don't leave my foot on the clutch while driving.

As for the log book showing an elegance and not a comfort they stated that they have a lot of log books showing the descrepancy but could not give an explanation why?

Thanks for your time

fabtdi, you did the right thing going to another dealer. If that dealer sorts it out for you, stay with them. As for the logbook, I wouldn't worry. I have had a similar problem getting insurers to describe my 1.8T 4X4 Estate correctly.

Logbook, had a simillar problem when I got my octy RS, was described as an ambiente 1.9TDI that ran on petrol. Dealer sent back to dvla and week later got one with the right details.
