I want to tint the Windows !!

Featured Replies

OK folks, here we go my first ever attempt at a tutorial

One of the things I like playing around with when I'm using Paintshop Pro - is tinting the windows of cars in photo's.

I have a standard set of things I tend to do :

  • Make the Wheels Bigger
  • Make the arch's appear a little flared
  • Make the Front Apron larger and lower
  • Tint the Windows

What you will need :

OK first of all you will need a copy of Paintshop Pro (Or similar)

you will also need a suitable photograph loaded on your PC, either your car or another car you'd like to play with.

Step 1

Open Paintshop Pro and load the image to wish to use.

Step 2

Select the Freehand selection tool, alter the options to Point to Point(easier to control)

Then simply zoom the display so that you have a good close up of the window area, then using the freehand selection tool select the outline of the window like so :

Step3.jpg

Once you have gone round the first window, continue to the second and repeat the process whilst holding shift(this allows you to add to the selection as can be seen above).

Step 3

Once you have selected all the window area that you wish to tint, it should look something like this :

Step3a.jpg

You must then select the "Burn Brush" and change the settings so that you cover the area that needs tinting, you may need to do this seperately on each section.Make sure you don't overlap another section

Step 4

Using the "Burn Brush"click the selection with the left mouse button - the number of times you do this depends on how dark you want your "Tints".

Step5.jpg

Once you have the shade you like reselect the freehand selection tool and right-click the selection.

You should then be left with a car which now has Tinted Windows.....

It's a fairly crude, but effective way of "Tinting" the windows, there are probably other ways of doing this - but I find this the quickest and easiest method.

I personally just select the windows and then go to IMAGE>ADJUSTMENTS>BRIGHTNESS and play with it :)

The burn tool will give more accurate results, well in PhotoShop it certainly does!
