Pre-FL Canbus Gateway Battery Drain?

Featured Replies

I'm in the process of purchasing a Columbus unit but will I need to change my Canbus Gateway module to stop Pre-FL battery drain?

Here are the unit codes:

3T0035680K

HW: H27

SW: 6270

10/6/2015.

With that Columbus software version almost certainly.

What's involved after purchasing and fitting the newer RNS510 Cambus Gateway, will I need it coded to my car with VCDS? Anything else?

Adamal said he can code it for me, fortunately he's just 10 mins up the M4. This one should be OK also then?

Will any Can bus gateway work no matter what the letters end in if it begins with 7N0???

Probably, but you will need the numbers to match as in *** 907 530 *, the last * being revision L or above. Once the revision hit the end of the alphabet, it started on AA, AB etc.

7NO just means not specific to an Octavia, but is the same as a 1K0 prefix which is specific fot Golf 5 chassis.

My original 54 plate had a 1K0 907 530 E and this needed changing for Columbus to avoid the battery drain. I fitted a 1K0 907 530 AD without any issues at all. 7N0 is a later model still, the AM version in your photos being a later model than AE.

But in answer to your question, yes, either one from your photos will do. Interesting to see how prices have come down in the last few years -- I paid £75 for mine! - uncoded!

You knowledge is unmatched and very much appreciated, thanks Mike you've cleared that up just nicely!

I've just sent him an 'Offer' so waiting on a response, cheers.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I wondered if anyone has a list of gateways that are prone to cause battery drain.

I have battery drain issue with a Kenwood head unit and wondered if this might be a cause.

I'll dig my multimeter out and try to find the circuit which is causing the drain.

I think if it's got a K (or anything before K) then it's a battery drain one. L and on should be fine.

Also a general rule of thumb that 2007 or older generally need a can-bus upgrade.

L or higher being OK was what I recalled from having to replace the gateway on my 2006 vehicle.

I fitted a similar Chinese head unit in the 2015 Yeti and there were no battery drain problems.

I fitted a Columbus to my previous Octavia. That was a 57 plate (but 2008 model year car) and it already had the appropriate gateway and had zero battery drain.
