Wish my car didn't have glass.

Featured Replies

Why?

Because no matter what I try I can't get a smear free finish. :(

I have two dogs which occupy the back of the car, one is a bit of a window licker. Cleaning off puppy spit is fine, easy enough but getting that new car, smear free finish eludes me.

So, without having to remortgage for a heap of cleaning products ( that said, I am happy to invest some cash for a good result), can anybody suggest something that works / a proven cleaning regime?

As always, indebted and grateful...

Vinegar available at 'Much Cheapness' in every discount store.

The dogs will love it.

(added lemon juice for sparkle, but then they really will be licking it.)

For Glass, not plastics.

Spray-on household windowlene and clean using kitchen paper towel, to remove dog-lick's etc, then using fresh clean kitchen paper towel, to dry off, and polish to a nice clear window..

I think the cloth has as much as an effect as the product. Definitely don't use household kichen roll but get a specific glass cleaning microfiber.

Also technique only wipe in one direction to avoid spreading the dirt back over the cleaned area. You may find it helpful to wipe the interior with horizontal strokes and the exterior glass vertically. The if there are any smears you can tell where you need to go over again

I use a quality waffle weave microfibre shammy, wrung out till almost dry then wipe over, then polish with a quality microfibre after. Rarely use any cleaning products now

Also, I'd consider a proper glass sealant on the inside of the glass, considering the issues you have.

If you know it'll get grubby, having some protection over the glass will make things much easier as well.

I'd go with Aquapel, or there's been some good reviews of Angelwax's H2Go: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121989302344

Tesco own brand window and glass cleaner (it's about a quid), blue roll, then buff it with a microfibre.

Basically, the same as what I use when I'm prepping shop windows for vinylling.

Wow, a real mixture of suggestions, all very much worthy of serious consideration.

Thank you all very much!

I use a piece of blue paper towel and windowlene, works a treat and no smears.

Good call this one.......I've also just purchased a 750mL bottle of Wilko's own window cleaner costing 75p - this works just as good as Autoglym Fast Glass for me........remember the quality of the cloth you're using to apply and buff off it JUST as important to prevent streaking/smearing or fibres sticking to the window.

I use autosmart 20/20 glass cleaner.  It's good stuff and as long as the cloth is clean it leaves a nice finish

I've always had good results with windowlene/generic glad cleaner and kitchen roll. It's the dry cloth that does it, you almost want to do a wax on and off job; on with the cleaner and then follow up with dry paper towel.

I use the Tesco stuff it's excellent and cheap!

Just tried Lidl's 75p stuff. Don't, it's ****.

Finished off with some Astonish from the pound shop that I forgot I had, it's better.

3M foaming glass cleaner is really good. Spray on and wipe off with a good automotive style blue towel roll stuff. Then buff with a microfibre cloth. A little goes a long way.

Yet another one here, always found meguires glass cleaner to work well for me.

I have used Nilco Nilglass with a waffle weave microfibre for about 8 months now, and I must say, I probably wont be using anything else now.

I got it in the B&Q sale 5 litres for 5 pound - http://www.diy.com/departments/nilco-professional-nilglass-glass-cleaner-spray-5-l/1136761_BQ.prd, but they are now pensioning it off, but if you can find it in your local store, it is worth a punt in my opinion - we even use it on house windows now.
