felicia as a sprint car?

Featured Replies

thinking of joining a local motor club and entering a car for some sprint events. These events use standard cars, so would the felicia be any good? It meets the requirements of being cheap to buy and pretty reliable, but how would it perform against something like a zetec fiesta?

Would be pretty light stripped out but would depend what you did to it engine wise as nothing puts out alot of power in standard form.

I would be entering it into a standard car class, so would not be able to modify it in any way, hence I wanted to know if the standard set up (suspension, weight, power etc) would be able to compete against other more popular cars in its class, such as the fiesta, pug 205 etc. cheers.

I have the 1.3 glxi from 96, and to be honest in standard form its pretty brisk, using the revs but not letting it hit red I have kept up with a 2.0 vectra estate to about 80mph and had the opertunity to play with some other more evenly matched cars and the little skoda seems to hold its own well exept changine 1st to 2nd at high (for a car) revs seems difficult and easily missed.

give it ago what the worst that cann happen :)

You need to decide if you are a serious competitior against others or just competing for fun and to better yourself and any thing else is a bonus.

On the subject of reducing weight, you can remove the rear seats.

Don't forget to put a bit of tape by the ignition with on and off on it.

The 1.3 is quite good IMO, keep the revs high. It's not all in the winning though, so go have some fun and let us know how you get on :);)

Well its well down on power at the mo - sluggish as hell - I'm guessing its got the exhaust problem that a lot of 1.3 seem to (reading this)...

I'm up agains Micras, 106's, Polos, Swifts that kind of thing.

Now does anyone know good ways to lighten, and gain a bit of power - is there a good cam profile to go for or is it worth messing with the electronics?

My last steed

and what I'm gonna be racing this year (the Felicia is just for club level fun)

Check and adjust the valve clearances too if this hasn't been done in a while. Poorly adjusted clearances can lead to power loss.

Thats just one of the members out in his standard car - the 1400's allow standard 'shopping spec' cars up to 1400cc and you can do some minor mods - bodykits and styling is all ok for example.

Nah I've only just got mine - I'll not be out in it until next year - first some road rallies then Sprints, Solos, Trials, Autotests etc..

its going to be well used. Be great if anyone else wanted to join in? I think in standard trim it may struggle as its the low compression engine, so I might buy a second in the new year with the high comp engine and tune that a bit

But reading this forum has made me very keen to Stick with Skodas - only downside seems to be a lack of off the shelf tuning bits.

I'm too busy to pull it all apart - but I mean its stupidly sluggish - 60mph flat out... gotta be exhaust cos it runs freely when not under load. Will get that checked - anyone know any good spanners in North Herts, S. Beds, that corner of Cambs

erm the white car is a Citroen... nasty thing and the owner hates Skodas...

Nice to see old threads revived ;)

Welcome to Briskoda ss, you'll find a wealth of knowledge about keeping Fellys and others running sweet, as well as quite a bit of their weak spots!

Yes, back box collapses and takes all power with it.

Engine temp sensor fails and the car pretends it's -50 Celsius outside. (rough running with that one too).

About it off the top of my head :)

Great looking fast beastie you have there too :P

picture of white car is not a favorit , it is a citroen visa, on xr2 pepperpots

Yeah Jason, what you on about? ;):D

It does look kind of like a weird favorit/felicia hybrid with peculiar bumpers. Could have been designed in conjunction with bertone?

I'd upgrade the Felicia's door handle scraping stock suspension if possible.

an ARB was fitted to some models- could be retrofitted?

anyone know any good spanners in North Herts, S. Beds, that corner of Cambs

i'm in north beds. but i,v got a unit in the cranfield area.

Isn't daverapid in that general area?

any help locally is welcome. Cranfield aint that far... though closer would be good ( I'm in Hitchin) but beggars etc..

I'm welly impressed with it though sub zero tonight and the car started no probs.

Hitchin!!! never mind, we all have to live somewhere!

if you would like any help, give us a shout. would love to come down and help.

i know the felicia almost inside out now.

The ARB is fitted to "most" models according to Haynes and it looks a bit of a pig to replace, let alone retro-fit.

If the front suspension lower arms have a holed flange to the rear, then it's probably possible to retro-fit one. Get yourself a strut brace too.

(when I first read your post mentioning it I first saw "ABS"  :D)

if the wishbones don't have the holes in, you can whip some off a scrapa in about 2 min's.

the part number for the 22mm front anti roll bar is 6U7 411 309 and the inner 22mm mounting bushes are 6U7 411 314 (you need 2 of these!)

From a randomly found previous thread...

pinkskud - I'll probably take you up on that. Why don't you come out and sprint too? The three 1400 events are at North Weald (2) and Millbrook

mines a 1600 at the mow. but its a dam good idea.
