Engine warning Light on Dash 008583 - Bank 1 System too Lean at Idle

Help please, the car is due a service this week anyway so it will be going into the 

 

dealers but i would like to be armed with a bit more info before they have my pants

 

 

down and tell me i need a new engine. Would i be right in thinking its an injector

 

 

issue and the pressure 990mbar is too low in bank 1. It runs fine but sounds

 

 

a bit clanky on start up like its only firing on 3 cylinders but like i said runs smooth

Well good news i sorted the problem it was a perforated diaphragm in the Diverted valve. Lights turned off on the dash and

wow does it go now. The cars decided its a rocket ship. picture below shows the problem.

Spoke too soon the Engine light is back on. Car still feels great though so the DV was still worth doing. Just need to find the problem now.

An intake vacuum leak sounds most likely. Do some fuel trim checks with VCDS. A silly little thing perhaps, but make sure that the dipstick is properly seated otherwise you will have a vacuum leak.

Its not the dipstick. There is a new noise since i changed the D.Valve though if i go over 3000 revs then i can hear a new mechanical wooshing noise but i just took this to be the turbo spooling up now that its holding boost. Before the diaphragm was so split and perished that i don't think the turbo has been working for a while. Its happened slowly over time so i didn't really notice. Since the remap though and the new DV the performance is incredible it litterally pins you in the seat as soon as the revs start building when 'pressing on'. The car feels really strong and healthy. After the service at Skoda the guys noticed the EML was on and suggested i try changing the Lambda Sensor. They said it was unlikely to be the injectors but would understandably charge to diagnose it properly. I think its probably some sort of sensor issue though.

Sorry to resurrect this thread again. However i have just found out that the legislation changed this year

and a EML light on the dash will make it fail the MOT. its always sailed through the MOT previously even

with the light on but i need to get it resolved now by Feb. As previous Car starts and Runs fine. I have been

told on previous MOT inspections that the Join between turbo and down pipe is blowing a little there

is evidence of soot around it. I have also been advised it could be 02 sensor but i guess you lot will know

of common issues to point me in the right direction. New VCDS autoscan below.

My Petrol engine car has sailed through it's  MOT in November past with the Engine Management light on as it passes the emissions.

Been sailing through MOTs for 10 years with the Exhaust Control System warning light on.

(That is not a mate testing it, i peel the sticker off that covers the warning light between MOTS so that it is clearly seen.)

Maybe this is its last year on the road as no matter what has been tried i have never managed to get that EML off.

Mines the same but they have just brought in new legislation that regardless if the vehicle is roadworthy then the light means it fails the test. 

There is some conjecture about the wording of the new legislation but most if not all MOT Testers will interpret this as if you present the car

with the EML light on it will fail.

Also i have acquired quite a few faults in the scan so i would like to get them fixed anyway.

Been doing a bit more digging and it seams like the PCV Valve and breather pipes are the main culprit so i have

just ordered new genuine VAG replacements and will give it a go.

So PCV valve and new gasket arrived and i fitted this afternoon. The two breather pipes were in good condition no

signs of leaks or wear etc so i have reused them. Put everything back together cleared the DTC's with VCDS did

a rescan and exactly the same errors. Help please!!! what other things could it be? whats the next most likely culprit?

Not necessarily the wrong one, but for wider readership you'd be better off in the Mk2 Octy section, I would think.

If you click on 'report post' in the top right corner of one of your own posts, say the first one, you'll get a choice of things to report including 'thread in wrong forum' I seem to remember.  Ask for it to be moved to Mk2 Octavia subforum and see how it goes in there.

 

Brake servo vacuum hose is another common source of air leaks; so may be worth a close look at.  If yours has sections of hard plastic pipe in its structure, these tend to crack at the junctions and then leak.

This was my next thing to check i had read elsewhere that this could cause these error codes. 

Something to do with Brake Booster vacuum pump / hose.  My brake pedal feel has gone a little weird lately.

I have brand new EBC grooved discs and ebc Pads so the stopping power should be better but its got worse

and the brake pedal feels firm to press. The system was bled so this kind of makes sense. Also The revs are 

not hunting but sometimes i back of the throttle and the revs stay around 2.5k even though im stationary and

in neutral. Only for a few seconds and then return to about 750revs. This sound familiar?

Thanks again Wino sounds like what i have. Do you by any chance have a diagram or photo of the part. I could potentially get the wrong part just googling and you seam to know your stuff.
