ALTERNATOR PULLEY PROBLEM

Featured Replies

I need to replace my clutch pulley as it does not freewheel in any direction and the flapping drive belt has knackered the tensioner pulley.

So I bought the Laser 3404 T50/1/2"D removal tool. It is a strong, well made tool and looked good on Youtube but unfortunately all that it did was chew up the female T50 in the end of the alternator's shaft!  And there was not much torque as I'm a weed.

Can anyone suggest, please, how I can remove the pulley. Thanks.

How did you chew it up, the T50 part is just to hold the shaft still while you undo the nut using a 19mm spanner, you now have no way of holding the shaft still and buying a second hand alternator will probably be the best way forward.

Was it definitely a torx fitting in the alternator? It can be either a torx or a spline.

I presumed it was a Torx because the tool was a Torx. Is that where I've gone wrong? Is there a tool with spline (although I think I still need a Plan B as there is not much left of anything, spline or Torx!). Cheers

Ah! The light has come on. Thanks Tech1e, you are right again as usual. Further research finds a choice of torx or splined tool! Silly me. Another example of a little knowledge........

Any Plan B please? Thanks

New alternator I'm afraid.

Got a photo of the pulley, end-on, in its  current state?

It doesn't happen to look like the third picture in this listing - does it?

Yippeee! The Gods of Skoda have been with me today. There was enough spline left on the shaft for a splined tool to work!  Thanks for your help guys.
