Mobius dash cam - Which lens?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys. BIG birthday coming up and shMbo has offered to buy me a dash cam for our new (waiting for a build date) Yeti.

So, after weeks of research I (we) have decided to buy a Mobius. I wanted something simple [like me] and reliable, and the Mobius seems to fit the bill precisely.  My only problem is which lens to get it with:

  1.  A – The “Standard” lens or
  2.  C2 – The "New" wide angle lens.

Having searched here at Briskoda and done several hours of “Googling” I have looked at as much camera footage as I can and it appears to me that the "A" lens – the standard lens -  is a little sharper on detail than the "C2" wide angle. There is of course a night time resolution problem to consider. So, can anyone here, maybe with experience of both lenses, help with comments and advice regarding the pros and cons of each lens please?

I would like to opt for the Super Capacitor as opposed to the battery version of the camera. To avoid buying the battery version of the camera and having to purchase a Super Capacitor to swap out for the battery, does anyone know of a supplier who will supply it with the capacitor instead of the battery? Ideally, I am looking to purchase it from a UK supplier. Any recommendations?

Grateful thanks, as always, for any help you can give me........................Tony

Hi Tony

I can only say I have had a Mobius for about 3 years now. It is still performing  well, despite often leaving it on overnight, so its not unusual to be running for 48 hours!!

(on a 10min loop of course)

I chose the wide angle lens, so cannot compare with a standard lens.  I would think the more you see the better chance of recording anything you may need. Clarity is not a problem, Ok to read number plates.

I purchased mine from I think the UK importer https://www.mobius-actioncam.com/ and have noticed good reports on forums about them. you can also specify the package which best suits your needs.

If I did need to replace it I would  buy the same again.

I have toyed with the idea of getting a couple of new ones with the C2 lens and using them as front facing and keep the original ones as rears. But I am holding out in hope that mobius comes out with a new camera at some point as it's been a while now and I've had my 2 for over 3 years and still going strong on A lens with original batteries in them with a good 150K miles recorded, zero failures to date (y). Prices of the Mobius have gone up to approaching double what I paid though :o

Mobius 2 (very similar to the JooVuu X) has already been launched! WiFi - GPS etc etc but not an outstanding review and it looks considerably bigger, relative to the size of the mobius (1). Decided that the Mobius would do all that I wanted, so decided to go that way.................Tony

PS The Mobius just arrived! From Amazon with free postage - They said 3 to 5 days for delivery only yesterday. But it's already here! - NOTE: Parcel small enough to fit through standard letter box

Cheers, hadn't seen news of the Mobius 2. Just had a look, no GPS or wifi mentioned just upgrade in recording capabilities with 1080p @ 60fps and 720p @ 120fps H.265 which is a big deal for the longer term (but with H.264 still). Li-po battery offering 2 hours recording at 1080p / 60fps! Size is basically identical to Mobius 1 with buttons on side and no cradle holder instead a 4 point copper screw in female tripod threaded mount / heat sink in one. Smoothness of the increased fps seems perfect, colours in daylight in comparison are not as good a little more bland, but low light it's significantly better (plenty of scope for improivements with future FW updates). £68 on ebay direct from the original mobius seller £15.37 more than the original Mobius at moment with exchange rate etc. Might have to order one to see what the score is :D :D :D
