Changing a wheel

Featured Replies

Construction is an important part (only?) of the Australian economy and when we are in a housing construction boom as we currently are, then the tradespeople involved will celebrate with carnivals through the streets throwing nails and screws around like confetti.....or so it seems.

My current set of tyres (26k km in two and bit years) have had three nail/screw punctures.

The last one a week ago I was fourth that morning dropping off punctured tyres to be repaired and there was another behind me.

I have probably averaged about 1 screw puncture every 2 years over the last 20 years.

I was considering replacing the current tyres with Michelin Pilot Sports but I am not so sure that investing in a long life tyre is such a good idea now.

Years ago Firestone used to "virtually" guarantee against punchers. If it did it was replaced(in UK at least). Probably today driving they'd be like rocks. Then we. Had the Denova tyre with a split rim and foam canisters inside.tyre deflated, foam burst, tyre back up,keep driving. Not easy to tell if you actually had a puncher. Swine to balance. If they had activated it usually ruined the insides of the tyre.

Yeah, most modern cars have the "repair kit", which god forbid someone ever uses, will destroy the tire. If I ever get a puncture, I will call the recovery service and have the car towed to a tire repair place.

I suppose it depends, in the end, if the puncture is able to have a legal repair done anyway.

Some can be fixed temporarily as a "get you home" but don't comply with permanent repair requirements e.g. they are too near the wall, and so on.
