Interesting!

Anyone know how it compares to the Columbus in terms of the amplification?

50W (RMS) per channel is pretty decent...though I wonder if the speakers themselves could manage the extra power!

Out of interest, if you don't opt for Canton, do you get the same speakers in the Octavia regardless which head unit you have?

Is it out already? We need a brave soul to order the first and report back on the experience.

I have Columbus and Canton in mine. Should I buy a new Octavia today I would have choosen the cheapest media system and skipped it for the new Pioneer head unit, a 5 or 6 channel amp and some good speakers.

I had Pioneer HU with Auto EQ and Auto time alignment in my Octavia MK1 several years ago, and have missed it since.

does it play cd's? I'm going to miss not having a cd player in my new Octavia :(

Is it not in the glove box?

they don't come with one any more from what I read, what a PITA!

Have to say I'm VERY interested in this. Being one of the Bolero crowd, I really miss no built in Nav and this looks to be a good solution from a good manufacturer.

Didn't see a price point, any ideas?

Jeez, my 2014 model is so old school!

Pioneer kit has always been top of the line in terms of ICE.

There is only that or Alpine that I would ever put into my car, although the days of proper audio upgrades are long gone - not what it used to be!

I googled the model number and it gave me a German site with a list price of 1200Euro...

Wasn't a very exhaustive search though.

There is an optional DVD player module, which obviously would also play CDs, but question is... Why? Seriously... I ripped my entire music collection to MP3 and just drop stuff on a large memory card and play from there - get with the times ;)

...actually, where it is at is streaming and Spotify, not even a memory card anymore...

Spotify is fine, if you can get a 4G signal which most times not (unless you subscribe and download).

for now I'll transfer some of my collection to SD card but I love CD's and ultimately MP3's will never sound as good as a CD on top end system, that's where I want to be eventually (when I can bare to take a new car apart!).

I would like to know more about this DVD player module if anyone knows about them..

Go to this page: http://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/navgateevo - it is under menu/accessories.

If you don't like MP3 you can always rip to a lossless format, such as .WAV, .OGG or .FLAC ;)

And Spotify can cache your favourite albums so that you can play them offline.

Digging further says "coming soon" for Octavia 3.

My link on the post just above yours should work and yes, it is supposed to be released end of August - I think some shops are already taking orders and price is €1200 (OUCH!!!) but I will have one anyway - I simply cannot stand the cheap, crap sounding Bolero.

I drove a rental Fiat 500L and a rental Renault Clio during my holiday and either of those had better sound than the Bolero - more, actually, the Clio had one of the best sounds I have heard in a car, but I think it was not the standard system...

Cheers, got that web page. Unfortunately, because of the Brexit vote :wall:  , the Pound is near enough par with the Euro, so that price will be even more "ouch" in the UK than it would have been for us before 23 June. But I'd be interested to see what it's like if/when you get it.

( I appreciate that there will be Briskoda members who regard the Brexit vote as a good thing. I don't. However, we are were we are, and we just have to make the best of it and move on.)

I will also join the queue to pay through the nose to get decent sound in my vRS.

  • 2 weeks later...

I heard it should be on stores by the end of September.

I'm installing a subwoofer, high quality front speakers and amplifiers to a non-canton Octavia.

Propably will order a Navgate instead of fairly expensive equalizer.

I wonder would this stop the Traffic Sign recognition error since it has a satnav?

  • 1 month later...

My dealer told me today that Navgate Evo is expected to arrive late November, possibly December.

I cancelled my order and I'm looking for other options. Alpine?

Does it do actual speed ? Does it do speed cameras ?

If not, its not improvement in that regard than the basic Amundsen. Which rather annoyingly comes with neither too and no way to hack them on <angryface>

My ancient £85 Pioneer dual nav purchase from ebay, has at very least got ability to hack the stuff around, and I can get alternative software on there that allows real GPS speed to be shown, as well as speed cameras.

More ability than a 2 yr old, bloody expensive, straight from the factory VW based unit then :/  Or another reason not to buy anything VW based.....

That newer Pioneer could potentially be very hackable after time ( once its clear how ), would be interesting to know whats its based on ?
( The old F series was Windows CE based and very easy to change the flash software on )

Y'know, there should be a forum about cars with sophisticated electronics (canbus, fibre optics, etc) that are fitted with carp stereos and nigh on impossible to upgrade.

What would be the point - everyone would just be moaning :)

Had a quick look and there has been some hacking under the good, for the mib1 pro (Canbus?) at least, with green engineering menu enabled

http://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14553

and some other with firmware updates - but looks like stock update to me

If only this was a sign of things to come as the stuff I've been playing about on the Pioneer as updates is very interesting ( I must say, that isn't connected to the cars canbus/ECU directly though!).

It would be very interesting to see stuff from say Russia with firmware updates but doubt I'd be one of the first to try it :)

The Alpine is double the price of the Pioneer, at some eye-watering €2000 :(

...adding to it that, although the screen is huge, the contrast and quality seem inferior to the one on the Pioneer AND the interface design seems poor and sluggish (confusing menus, crowded screens with many elements and stuttering animations/slow response)

Ultimately, and from my experience, Alpine is one of the best soundwise in terms of car audio, but the real world demonstrations I have seen of this particular headhunit leave a bit to be desired. At that price point? Hmmmm... Pioneer it is for me, and I will wait.

This dealer of yours, was it here in Finland? What price they gave you?
