Bluetooth+ is it worth it?

Featured Replies

Just deciding on spec for a VRS and unless I'm much mistaken BT+ is only available with wireless phone charging and WiFi... I don't think I need the other two options but how useful/effective is BT+?

I would get that feature for the wifi. Apple CarPlay is awesome (Smartlink) and worth the money, but only works if connected via USB. The new version of CarPlay that's released to the phones later this year will feature wireless connectivity - but only over wifi.

I would have thought all new Octavias would have come with bluetooth as standard? if not it could be activated through VCDS?

They do, the Bluetooth+ option has nothing to do with Bluetooth.

OK, I didn't read too much into those kind of extras as thought the normal Bluetooth would be just fine for my needs :)

I don't have wireless charging nor wifi and have Bluetooth+. Has it made a difference to signal - maybe 1 bar extra in areas where I had signal, including weak signal. If it's an area without signal for your network, this won't (from my experience) mean you'll have signal with Bluetooth+.

I'd maybe put that money to another optional extra

So what exactly does the WiFi do? I don't have little kids so not sure why I would want connectivity for other devices in car? Can Android devices SmartLink wirelessly by WiFi or BT?

Daft question maybe...Smartlink sounds like software to me..can you just turn it on in VCDS?

@juan27 It is just software - it's listed as £150 option on spec, and basically covers the licensing to Apple & Google for CarPlay and AndroidAuto.

My local dealer turned mine on in 10 minutes for me, and charged £108 all-in. You need an activation code to do this - I've seen them on 3rd party websites for about £100 - but why bother, when it's that cheap done officially through the dealer?
