Meant to add. Try getting someone to hold the passenger or drivers side seatbelt height adjustment plastic bracket. The bit you squeeze together to move seatbelt height up or down. Mine pings a bit like a large spring on uneven surfaces. Moving the height and checking the plastic bit you squeese together was locking in place stopped the noise.

Thanks, I will give this a go as my clonk certainly seems to originate from immediately behind me.

I will also try, similar thing for me. thanks.

Had a similar clunk in the rear when traveling over humps and i managed to stop it by putting some gaffa tape on the locking loops that hold the following rear seats up.

I have a variable boot floor on my combi and if the trunk is empty on bumps with some speed the top cover makes noise, i put some sponge  at the lip of variable boot top cover as the plastic they used are hard. i didnt have thick enough sponge but it lower the noise. to eliminate, i will try to find sticky gel strip with about 3~5mm thickness

Yes this is the only noise I have had, it should really have a latch, a bit annoying, dropping the variable floor cures it but then you cannot store stuff away from prying eyes. If you have the floor up a  bag of cement on it cures it though!

I might drop the floor again but as you said, it is great to hide stuff like the huge umbrellas i have. Anyway my concentration is to the noises coming from the door or side of the center console where it meets doors. i dont have any issue on nice roads but on mountain road where its not smooth surface road so many "tick" "click" noise coming.

The noise from the door was irritating me so i put some time to find the source.

On the top of all doors there is a rubber piece with some cloth on it to reduce wind noise entering the cabin. This piece was rubbing against the cars frame with little movements on uneven road conditions (i wonder if the chassis supposed to twist and move this much)

I waxed the inner frame all around the doors and no noise any more.

If you push with your hand to the top part of the door frames you can see this movement. only driver door and passenger door on (both on left side) was making the noise.

I dont know why this noise started but at delivery there was no such noise and after about 1500km come out, now at 2500km.

I think this is a common problem across many cars.  There will certainly be a small amount of movement in the doors when the chassis flexes but it shouldn't be making that sort of noise.  Can't comment on the S3 but if its like the S2, then loose door straps was certainly an issue for many of us and require tightening.  Waxing or lubricating the surrounds as you have done will solve the problem, but possibly only temporarily. The noise could return when the lubricant wears off.

  • 2 months later...

I have had a glovebox rattle (replaced under warranty)

a resonation / rattle coming from the front bulkhead area

and a pair of side chrome window trim catching each other (same as Billyjim), these are both being going in for warranty replacement / refining in a couple of weeks.

Were your dealers sympathetic regarding that rattly glovebox? Mine has started rattling. I think it's catch related.

It took a couple of visits, but once I had recorded the rattle it was agreed to replace 'the whole glovebox', it has since been silent again.

Had a look around a Surperb in local dealer yesterday.

I was impressed by the build quality and it seems to be miles ahead of my Octy Mk3 VRS.

I loved the touch button close tail gate.

Just surprised by the build quality.

I went in to buy an Octy VRS and came away with a Superb Sportline for that exact reason! Haven't done a 1000 miles yet so can't relate to the niggles people are referring to, and hopefully never will...

The button on my glovebox rattles occasionally. If I put my finger on the button, the rattling stops, so it's definitely that. I'll mention it when it goes in for its first service if it needs the whole lot replaced to fix it.

I had my glove box replaced under warranty. It never closed properly from new
