Brake problem (Major) Please help

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm in trouble with my front brakes.

No response when i put my foot on the brake.

When I pump the brakes it sounds like there is air escaping with each pump.

The alarm has been sounding occasionally and the light on continuously for the past week or so.

The brake fluid level was fine every time I checked it until today, brakes also working perfectly.

Today it looks like the brake fluid is almost empty.

Any suggestions from you would be greatly appreciated.

TIA.

You need to get everything hydraulic checked out Pipes (rubber and metal), master cylinder, calipers, bleed nipples etc... Don't ignore clutch master/slave/pipes as the same reservoir is used. Wherever the problem is you will find brake fluid

Could also be a servo problem if you can hear air escaping. If your not mechanically minded get a good mechanic to look at it, as brakes are not something to be looked at lightly.

Only way to lose fluid is a leak, really. What kind of Octavia is it you have?

It can pass the seals in the master and enter the servo, but usually a lot of white smoke out of the exhaust if petrol. If you can hear ar leaking when applying the brakes it normally indicates a servo problem.

if you need a new master cylinder there are a few new genuine trw ones on ebay for not much

If your brake pedal is pushing straight to the floor then you would expect a hiss from the servo as it helps the pedal hit the deck even quicker. You usually get an air filter near pedal push rod where displaced air is sucked in (inside the car)

Hi to all, Firstly I'm really sorry but for some reason your replies are only coming through to me now.

I was afraid to drive the car that day (last Sunday) as I had 2 little nephews on board. On Monday I very carefully drove it to my nearest mechanic and thankfully the problem is now sorted.

A brake piston seal had ruptured and the piston is now replaced and everything is hunky dory. Many thanks again to you all for your prompt replies.

Keep up the good work☺
