What is the fourth cable in the AUX for?

Featured Replies

Hi.

I changed the center console in my wife's Octavia -10 to one with jumbo box and arm rest, the console came with the original AUX socket installed but the cables where cut 10cm from the socket.

Out of the original socket there is 4 cables but I can only find 3 in the stereo end, AUX L, AUX R and AUX ground.

So what is the fourth cable for? And where does it go?

Since I have the original socket I wish to use that one but I need to know where to put the fourth cable...

The stereo is a bolero if it helps.

Regards Dennis

One is a shield to stop interference - it just sits in the cable and doesn't connect.

Thank you for your answer!

So here comes the next question, how does this shield works? Just plug a cable in and leave it loose in the other end and it will work?

Correct.

If both ends are connected can cause an earth loop which can cause more interference, connecting only one end prevents radiated interference getting into the signal wires so is the right thing to do.

Should I just leave a 15cm cable hanging under the socket or should I make it longer and wrap it around the AUX cable almost all the way to the stereo?

It just runs to the point you strip back the outer shroud to access the regular wires.
