Been rocking around in a 1.0 MPI Fabia III!

Featured Replies

Whilst my car was having some remedial work done at the body shop; they gave me a 1.0 Fabia III to rock around in.

Positives:

  • Nice interior layout
  • Good steer with nice neutral handling
  • Nice ride without being to wallowy
  • Decent stereo over the Fabia II

Cons:

  • The 1.0 engine is not really suitable for a car that size these days. Whilst it makes a nice thrummy noise it was left wanting on my 18 roundabout work journey! It did like to be revved and as long as you used between 4000 and 6200 RPM!
  • Steering is pretty lifeless as is the case with most cars these days
  • The standard fit Kumho EcoWings are noisy
  • Why have a limiter option but then not fit standard cruise or even ACC although the radar and equipment is there!

Overall I was really pleased with the progression over the Fabia II. With a 1.2 TSI 110 and DSG it would be a really good proposition.

Totally agree with the cruise comment. The hardware difference is one button. That's it. And they charge £180 for it. I do quite like the limiter though, really useful in those awful 50 mph average speed checks, and also around town. Still want the proper cruise though, or preferably adaptive.

You are correct, Sir. Fabia III SE L, 1.2TSI/110 + DSG is a very nice bit of kit. Panoramic roof just gilds it nicely.

I did like it for the 30 zones. I however would have preferred cruise control.

I was very impressed.

I had a 1.4 TDI 75 today in S trim (wheel trims an all!) for the day and was amazed at how nippy it was! However, the diesel noise was unbearable and the vibrations annoying. Especially with the start stop enabled. I didn't like the clutch either as it felt like a knife switch rather than a usable action. The petrol was definitely better.

Well, Ive got the 1.0 in my Ibiza.

But turbo charged its quite impressive, allthough not as powerful as the 110 Fab at lower revs but well suited to urban traffic.

I also got given one of those as a courtesy car

Rotten engine. Every gearchange felt like it was lurching forward

And those non sports seats. After half an hour my back was in pieces.

The multi-function steering wheel and DAB was nice but thats where it ended for me

I had a Polo with the 75PS 1.0 in Spain last year. It was very slow, but seemed OK to me! Seats are a very subjective thing. My parents had a Golf 5 a little while back, they both had trouble with the seats (the standard 'comfort' seats in the SE spec cars) while I found them really very comfortable.

We have had a 1.0 69bhp S for a few months now and have found it a very pleasant motor to drive. The engine is no ball of fire but will cruise at the legal limit on motorways easily and the manual gearbox is fine. You have to time overtaking carefully as I have to with the Citigo. All in all it's a much better car than the Fabia mk 2. You pays your money.....

Mine never lurches,I find the seats very comfy and I love the engine. It must be a BMW with Skoda Fabia badges on it :p
