VCDS questions

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a few questions on VCDS which I've been unable to find answers to, so hoping someone can help.

We have a 2007 Superb, 2014 Fabia and my 2016 MY16 superb (SEL) in the family but main reason to purchase is to enable options on my new superb.

Questions are:

  • Is the VCDS (VAG-COM) HEX-USB+CAN the best option or should I wait for the UK release of the HEX-NET?
  • Can you "back up" the car so to revert any changes made if a mistake is made etc. Is this straight forward?
  •
  • I have TSR, I've seen it mentioned but no instructions for enabling lane assist, can someone point me in the right direction?
  •
  • Any recommendations on a supplier? GENDAN's power bundle seems best value, but no printed manual does put me off.

I am computer literate and have experience of programming (mapping) Japanese ECU's from scratch but this is a little different.

Thanks in advance.

Personally I don't see the benefit of paying more for a product which is able to have wireless connectivity and limit yourself to only being able to use it on 10 vehicles. Or pay even more and have the ability to use it on unlimited vehicles and benefit from wireless. I would personally just buy the Hex Can lead and pay less and get full product use on any number of cars.

Lack of a manual isn't anything I'm concerned about personally.

  • Is the VCDS (VAG-COM) HEX-USB+CAN the best option or should I wait for the UK release of the HEX-NET?  HEX-NET is certainly much faster and more capable on newer cars (some will not read all the controllers with the HEX+CAN)
  • Can you "back up" the car so to revert any changes made if a mistake is made etc. Is this straight forward? Yes

Take your pick http://www.ross-tech.com/distributors.php do not worry about the manual, after a day or two you will not need it, all the info needed is online http://www.ross-tech.com/index.html

HEX-NET can also be used via the USB cable, as well as the points raised above.

You can also buy it direct from Ross-Tech, but please factor VAT / import duty etc.
