Cup holder

Featured Replies

With our Superb combi 150tdi style dsg I find the weird cup holders in the centre console quite unusable, for holding drinks bottles at least. Some softer plastic water bottles and especially smaller cans like energy drinks are not stable enough and can fall over, because the holder is not encircling them entirely.

Not sure if this is the same design in all eqipment levels, but I'm thinking this would be easy to fix with some plastic inserts. Anybody knows if something like this exists for superb? Any other suggestions how to solve this problem are also welcome.

Put your bottles at the front of your door storage pocket. It's slanted and a couple of napkins will keep it steady if the bottle isn't big enough to fill void.

As for energy drink tins, Mr Red Bulls standard tin fits probs about 5% of all cars drinks holders on planet. Normal 330ml tin sits just right.

If I am sampling the energy drink Tim, then the little disposable tissue packets work a treat in wedging them steady!

Thanks for all the ideas. I just wish the cup holder would fully encircle the can, then it would be no problem also for energy drinks to stay in there. Like in my previous cars, never had a problem with that, that's why I was quite surprised that my new car has such a bad cup holder design. But if this will be my only problem with the car I will happily live with that :)

I'm bumping this thread, as I too am a bit annoyed about the center cup holder(s).

If anyone has found some sort of 'insert' or something that will create a firmer hold around a cup/a bottle, then please let me know :-)

I will search the net and post here if I find anything.

So far, the only thing I've found is this gizmo from a Norwegian gadget shop, it looks interesting but a bit of an overkill... But it could be a good solution for other road warriors!

Not even sure if it will fit in the Superb...

But for me this is way too much, what I want is something more in the line of this:

This is a 'cup holder insert' for the Land Rover Discovery 3, where this rubber fitting made cups and bottles sit much more firmly in the otherwise too wide and 'hard' cup holders in the Disco 3 (the design was changed for the Disco 4, as far as I remember).

Hmm, maybe this McGyver solution would work?

Picture from a Kia forum, guess others have a similar problem too...

One of the clever features hidden in the cup holder is a set of bumps in the bottom of the centre cup holder (That intersects the other 2) to hold the bottom of a 500 ml bottle so you can unscrew the lid one handed. I've not seen this feature on any other car.

I had a Kia Sportage Mk2 a few years ago and this had simple flappy rubber inserts built into the centre console cup holders which did a great job of holding bottles. Still waiting for the Superb to turn up but my current Octavia's cup holders are not as good as the old Kia's. Has the Superb 3 got a cover for the cup holders when not in use? I ordered a few weeks ago and can't remember.

Yes, a sliding cover.
