bignorm's monte carlo.

Featured Replies

I thought it was about time I started a thread as I now start to do some tinkering to my Monte Carlo. I've been on here a while but not posted that much.

My last car was a mk1 golf gti rivage which I restored to a high standard. Before that I had a mk4 golf gti which was oem+ and won it's class in its first show before someone crashed into me.

Anyway, the car in question now is a 2012 1.6tdi Monte Carlo in white/black.

Bought the car completely standard and in very good condition.

I got plans for it but these might change as I go.

These are my previous 2 cars.

I'll post some pics of my Monte later on.

The only thing I have done so far is change the original swing radio for a Kenwood DNX521DAB. Makes a big difference to the overall look of the dashboard.

Like the head unit

If this turns out to be half as good as the Golf's then this build will be quality!

Cheers guys.

Yeah the head unit sets it off nicely.

I've got some plans but unsure what I'm going to go with yet

Picked up 2 spare original wheels for a good price.

I will keep one to replace the spare in the boot and the other will be sold on after a full refurb.

The car is going to be oem+ so I'll be sticking to the monty wheels but they might have a little makeover.

What are you thinking of with the monte wheels. Mine are immaculate but im not too sure on them

I think they look a little lost in the arches as they are black, they just blend in to much.

One of my spares are being fully refurbished and colour coded white to match the bodywork. I'll wait till its back before deciding if I stick with them or buy new wheels.

I was thinking silver with mine actually

  • Author

I thought about silver but white would stick to the theme of the monte.

I'll wait till its done before deciding what I do

I have a red monte though. Dont think red wheels would go! Would love a white one! Mines looks like a postman pat van

Silver would look good.

Seen a red Monte with gold wheels before and that worked well

Are you planning anymore interior changes?

Interior will probably be the first thing I do.

I got a centre armrest coming sometime today and I will be booking the car in at the end of the month for a full leather retrim.

I'd go anthracite Jase. That's what I'll probably do with mine if/when the time comes. I've always found it works well with red.

Tried to change the startup screen on my kenwood but couldn't do it. Did manage to put the original startup back in the end.

Bought a genuine centre armrest off a fellow member which turned up today.

Excellent condition but probably won't fit it until the car goes in to be trimmed.

Well I've had to put my plans on hold for a few months due to pulling a muscle in my back...... or so I thought.

Currently having intensive corrective work on my spine which will get me back to 100%

Nothing really happend recently due to my back still being knackered.

I did send a original Monte Carlo wheel to a mate to refurb it and paint it white. The original black ones just get lost in the arches.

I will send the other 4 off soon to be done.

Be interesting to see what the white wheels look like. Quite fancied doing it on mine.

  • Author

Should work well on a white Monte. Hopefully pick them up the end of the month as well as fitting my new suspension

How much was the head unit mate??

  • Author

Around £400 it was mate. I had it off a member on here in as new condition.

Finally picked up my spare Monte Carlo wheel today after it needed repainting for a 2nd time.

Very happy with the finish and 100% convinced I'll be going full white colour change with the rest of the wheels.
