Is the Octy 2 diesel (2.0 Tdi) as well soundproofed as possible, or are there firms out there who can make a real difference? I'd willingly spend a few hundred (hush rather than rush) for a tranquil decade to come...

You always do more; use damping sheets (available from bodyshop suppliers or large factors) to stick to any flat sheet of metal e.g. floor panels, boot floor. Use expander foam in any nooks and crannies, pillars and sills(avoiding seat belt units etc).

Then use soundproofing wadding cut to shape under the vehicle carpet; especially under the front carpets, and under the boot carpet and rear seats.

Noisekiller UK (below) produces soundproofing kits for cars, including Skoda. It might be worth contacting them to see what they offer for the Octavia II.

But about sound - mine is very quiet, is that because it is petrol???

The petrol is more quiet than the PD engine for sure, mainly to do with blasting in fuel at VERY high pressure etc.

I used soundkiller too, got him to fit it for me in the carpark at work in Bracknell

The main effect is to muffle the sound, and it does have a good impact IMHO. The second bit of sound proofing I did was the PDxxx cover from seat, dunno if that's suitable for your car as well, it fitted the Fabia vRS though.

Other things that may contribute to more noise are the tyres - the lower the profile the more noisy they appear to be for roadnoise, which then gets passed into the cabin.

The testimonials on their site are good, though they do seem mainly to be from Land Rover or motorhome owners, who would certainly benefit more from soundproofing than an Octy! But I still think I'll go for it...

It is a couple of bits of moulded foam with a few metal bits in to allow the bits of foam to stay together & rotate. The moulded foam goes underneath the plastic engine cover, over the top of the engine. It fits on the PD100 and PD130 engines for sure. I'd be surprised if it was suitable to petrol engines.

The effect of it is to dampen the worst clatter noises at their source (the injectors).

Sounds interesting

On the Octavia, the TDi under bonnet sound proofing fits directly to the underside of the bonnet. This means it will fit straight onto a pterol model.

Just to clarify - the Furby already has soundproofing under the bonnet - soundkiller adds another bunch of the stuff there too. The PD1xx is extra and goes under the plastic engine cover. As for pics - I haven't got any handy at the moment :(

Standard Fabia vRS myself and I felt it was worth it, the reduction in noise is subtle in some ways but very much noticable & I totally agree with Stuart - Steve's a nice guy and he did an excellent job on my car too

Just make sure you don't get an Octy on Bridgestone tyres!!!!!!!!

Whilst I'm sure the kit is not only effective, but also reasonably priced - I decided to do some research and have a no-compromise job done myself. I want to eliminate as much noise as possible, but also deaden where possible to - all ready for a top sound quality stereo install.

I have a bulk pack of Brown bread which is the deadening - it will absorb any panel vibrations caused by speakers etc. I will also purchase 2 rolls of SAPT220 which is a sound proofing material used in machinery. Its not cheap, and is bloody heavy, but will sure do a good job of reducing cabin noise. Its highly recommended on car audio forums.

Earplugs for soundproofing, eh? Not such a silly idea....

I seem to remember a US Hi-Fi magazine (?Stereophile?) which had a column on in-car audio. Someone recommended a powerful system combined with earplugs. The earplugs cut out the car noise, and you simply turned up the audio to the required perceived level!

But pretty awful for the car next to you in a traffic jam.

I'd be fooked with back pain without my magnetic bracelet. All I know is if i take it off for a day i'll spend 3 days in agony with it on again before i'm pain free. When the pain starts to kick in and I wonder why, I feel sick when I realise that I forgot to put it on again.

I got mine on Ebay. It was pretty cheap so the gold is now flaking off and cutting the crap out of my wrist. Infection may follow so i'd better get a new one but this one won't be coming off until i get it. It's just not worth it.

For the record I had to wear it for 3 weeks before it was fully effective. Maybe it is just in my mind as the sceptics say. I don't care, whatever it is works.

Not looking for an argument - if it works for you and alleviates your back pain, great. The placebo effect is a marvellous thing, but that's just what it is.

Having said which, please don't stop believing in your magnetic bracelet - write me off as a congenital sceptic.

No, not yet, but seriously thinking about it. I aggree that the audience system fairly gets the door trims rattling. Funny that I can stand the music Loud but a wee rattle.... UNBEARABLE!!!
